Chapter 19: AWKWARD SILENCE

I went through my normal routines that day. But as I stepped out of my room to go downstairs, halos malaglag ang puso ko sa gulat when I saw Dominic standing outside my door as if he had been waiting there for quite some time.

Hanggang ngayon ay nagtataka pa din ako to why Baba chose Dominic to be my bodyguard. I had no knowledge of his background in protection or security. All I knew was that he worked as one of the bartenders at our bar.

To make things even stranger, Dominic always hovered behind me like a permanent shadow. The idea of someone following me so closely was already unsettling. And the fact that this someone was Dominic—the man who took my virginity—was on another level of discomfort that I have no words to describe.

Nang makababa kami sa unang palapag ay dinaluhan kami ni Emerson. To make things worst, nalaman ko din na dalawa pala sila ni Dominic na naatasang bantayan ako. Just. Fuckin. Great.

I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Bakit ko kailangan ng dalawang bodyguard? What danger was I in, really?

I felt like a prisoner, even within the confines of my own home. I just couldn't wait for this bizarre situation to end.

I glared at Dominic as I ate my breakfast. He hasn't even said a word to me!

I refused to talk to him first, not after what he did to me. He left me without any explanation, so he should be the one to start the conversation. Siya ang may atraso sa akin.

Mabuti pa si Emerson, he greeted me with a cheerful 'good morning' earlier. It was a small gesture, but it provided a momentary breathing space from the tense atmosphere. However, he too fell silent, seemingly aware of the awkward tension between Dominic and me.

The two of them stood side by side, their gazes fixed straight ahead. As I continued to eat, the only thing that could be heard throughout the room was the sound of utensils hitting against each other .

After finishing my breakfast, I stood up and cleared my throat. "Papasok na ako sa Uni. Did Baba also tell you to accompany me there?"

Speaking of Baba, hindi ko pa siya nakikita simula nang magising ako. Usually, he tries to eat with me whenever he's home.

Napailing ako sa sarili. I will not be surprised if they told me that he flew to another country again.

Bumaling si Emerson kay Dominic, tila nag-aantay ng sagot mula sa katabi.

Dominic nodded. "Yes, Mr. Liu specifically instructed us to escort you from home all the way to school. You're also not permitted to visit any other public places for the time being."

What I heard threatened to stir up emotions within me, but I refused to grant him the satisfaction of knowing how deeply he affected me.

My forehead creased with irritation.

"Seriously?" Bumaling ako sa dalawa at pinagtaasan sila ng kilay. "Why do I even need all this protection? Who am I in danger from? Hindi ba 'to overreacting?"

Dominic looked at me, his expression unchanging. "I'm not at liberty to discuss the details with you, Ms. Liu. I'm just following your father's orders."

I let out a heavy sigh. "Fine. Whatever Baba wants."

Just as he was about to say something, I swiftly walked out of the dining area. It took every ounce of strength I had not to look back as I felt Dominic's intense gaze burning into my back as I left the room.

As I walked towards the waiting car, I realized that it wasn't my usual ride, but one of our bulletproof cars.

I didn't utter a word as Dominic held the door open for me. I got into the backseat and closed it behind me. It seemed that my driver, Mang Jude, would not be accompanying me to school as he was nowhere to be found. Instead, si Dominic pumwesto sa driver's seat, while Emerson sat beside him in the passenger seat.
