Carefully slipping out of bed, Beidou felt the cool floor beneath her feet. Ningguang's peaceful slumber reassured her mission's success. Moonlight painted the room in a soft glow, casting a serene ambiance. Beidou stole a tender glance at Ningguang, a fond smile playing on her lips. She tip-toed to their daughter's nursery. She leaned against the crib's edge, her gaze fixed on Xia's tiny form. The soft, dim light cast gentle shadows across the room, creating a cocoon of serenity around the sleeping infant. Xia's chest rose and fell in a rhythmic pattern, her delicate features relaxed in slumber.
"Hey there, my little sailor," Beidou whispered, her voice a tender murmur that seemed to add to the peaceful ambiance.
Lifting Xia with care, Beidou made her way towards the door, her steps like whispers in the night. The house seemed to hold its breath, a canvas of stillness for their adventure. Her eyes fluttered open, and Xia gazed up at Beidou with bright, curious eyes.
"It's just you and me, kiddo," Beidou whispered, a mixture of tenderness and excitement in her voice.
She placed a little knit hat that Ningguang had made in her spare time. She proclaimed that 'Liyue gets cold around this time of year and the last thing I want is her getting sick.'
The night outside welcomed them with a gentle breeze and stars that winked above. "Ready to help Mama with a special surprise?" She shifted Xia into a scarf and tied her to her back.
"We're looking for something as radiant as your mama's spirit," Beidou continued her voice a soft thread of conversation between them. "Something that'll make her smile light up the sky."
Their path led them to a charming gem shop, its window adorned with jewels that glistened like promises. The shopkeeper, an old soul with a knowing smile, greeted them warmly.
"A nocturnal adventurer, it seems," he remarked, his eyes twinkling with understanding.
Beidou returned the smile, a conspiratorial glint in her eyes. "Looking for something as radiant as starlight."
The jeweler presented a gem that shimmered like a captured comet. "For someone as precious as this gem."
The man gestured for Beidou to pick up the gem. She lifted up the gem. The way the gem reflected the moonlight, the shine that contoured the edges. She lifted the gem above her shoulder for Xia to see.
Xia started smacking Beidous back and babbling with excitement.
"I think we found just the thing, Xia. We'll take it."
Beidou placed the mora chips on the table and got the jewel wrapped in cloth.
Beidou and Xia arrived at a quaint jeweler's shop tucked away in a cozy corner of Liyue Harbor. The shop's windows displayed a mesmerizing collection of glistening gems, each one capturing a piece of the night's magic. As they entered, a delicate chime announced their presence.
"Welcome," greeted the jeweler, an elderly man with kind eyes that seemed to hold the wisdom of ages. "What can I help you find tonight?"
Beidou's smile held a touch of excitement as she carefully adjusted Xia on her back.
Beidou's smile held a touch of excitement as she carefully adjusted Xia in the carrier. "I'm looking for something truly special for my beloved's birthday—a piece that reflects her uniqueness."
The jeweler's gaze fell on Xia, his eyes alight with understanding. "Ah, a mother and daughter on a treasure hunt. How wonderful!"
Beidou nodded, her heart warmed by the jeweler's perception. "Yes, and I have an idea. I have this piece of jade and I was wondering if it could be turned into a necklace."
The jeweler's eyes lit up with curiosity as he accepted the piece of jade from Beidou's hand. His fingers traced the stone's surface, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Jade holds a deep significance in our culture—it's a symbol of protection, harmony, and strength. Turning this into a necklace would make it a gift filled with profound meaning."
As the jeweler worked his craft, Beidou watched with rapt attention, her heart fluttering with anticipation. She imagined Ningguang's reaction when she received a necklace made from the very essence of the earth—the embodiment of their love and the precious moments they had shared.
"Almost done," the jeweler announced with a satisfied nod, holding up the finished necklace for Beidou to see. The jade had been transformed into a delicate pendant, suspended from a chain that glimmered like moonlight on water. "A symbol of your love, and a connection to the land and sea."
Beidou's smile was one of gratitude as she accepted the necklace.
"But there's one more thing," Beidou said, her voice carrying a touch of excitement. "I'd like to add a fingerprint charm, a tiny imprint of our daughter's fingerprint to make it even more special."
The jeweler's eyes sparkled with delight as he took out a small silver disc, ready to capture the essence of Xia's unique mark. With gentle care, he guided Xia's tiny finger onto an ink pad, then onto the disc.
"There we go," he said, his voice soft. "A little piece of her forever imprinted on this necklace."
Beidou's heart swelled as she saw Xia's fingerprint preserved on the disc.
She paid for the necklace, and as they left the shop, Beidou held the necklace close, her heart full of gratitude for the jeweler's craftsmanship and the meaningful journey they had embarked upon. With Xia now nestled against her chest, they walked back through the moonlit streets of Liyue Harbor,
With the necklace nestled safely in its box, Beidou and Xia returned home, the night still embracing them in its quiet charm. Xia's eyes were heavy with sleep as they entered their house, the journey having taken its toll on the little adventurer. Beidou carefully unfastened the scarf and cradled Xia in her arms, her touch a comforting presence against Xia's drowsy form.
As she moved through the house, Beidou's steps were gentle, each one calculated to avoid even the faintest creak of the floorboards. The soft glow of a lantern and the moon illuminated their path, casting a warm light over the memories they were creating.
Approaching Xia's nursery, Beidou gazed down at her daughter's peaceful face, her heart full of adoration. "Time to head back to dreamland, Xia."
With practiced ease, Beidou laid Xia back in her crib, grabbing the stuffed bunny Kazuha had gifted her, she wrapped Xia's tiny fat baby arm around it and carefully tucked the blankets around her. Xia's tiny fingers curled in sleep, her breathing steady and serene. Beidou leaned over the crib, pressing a soft kiss to Xia's forehead.
"Sleep tight, little one," Beidou whispered, her voice a gentle lullaby.
Turning away from the crib, Beidou's next destination was her own bedroom. She closed the door with a tiny sliver so she could hear Xia's calls in the middle of the night.
In the dim light, she navigated her room, heading towards her dresser. With a quiet rustle, she retrieved the box containing the necklace, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns on the pendant.
"Tomorrow's the day, my love," Beidou murmured, a smile playing on her lips.
Carefully placing the box in a hidden corner of the dresser, Beidou ensured that her secret remained safe until the perfect moment. With a sense of anticipation and contentment, she turned to make her way back to bed.
Slipping beneath the covers, Beidou settled beside Ningguang, her partner still lost in the realm of dreams. Beidou's heart swelled as she gazed at the woman she loved, feeling the warmth of their shared journey.
"You're in for quite the surprise tomorrow, Ningguang," Beidou whispered, her voice a soft promise.
