The news that I had unofficially gotten 'signed to Syco' was over the internet literally by the time Justin and I got back to the house. I was still slightly buzzing with excitement.
The finalizing papers would be done and signed after a series of meetings all next week, then I'd start recording a few demo songs. But for now, I'd bask in the limelight. I planned to tell the girls when they got back in two weeks.
I was laying down with Justin in his living room watching The Fault in Our Stars when my phone rang.
"Can you get that Jus?"
"No prob," he answered, more focused on what was going on between Hazel and Augustus on screen. He stretched his arm over the expanse between the couch and the table where my phone was on the charger, "Uh, hello?"
I looked at him, "No this is the right number? Paige is right here... I'm Justin... Oh! You're Lauren..? Yeah..hold on."
He handed me the cell phone, and I grabbed it quick, "Hello? Lauren?"
"Who's the dude answering your phone alla sudden?" Her husky voice inquired.
"No hello? It's Justin, he's a friend of mine. How are you? Haven't heard from you in a while...."
"Sorry, mama, I've been really busy. Management and rehearsals and whatnot—haven't gotten a chance to call. Justin? Bieber?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Nothing, I saw you guys in a magazine article. You've been hanging with him a lot."
"Yeah, he's a cool guy. How's Brad?" I could tell she was inadvertently accusing me of something, so it was my turn to do the same.
"Why ask about him? This is about you."
"No, now it's about Brad. And don't say you haven't been hanging out with him, Lauren."
"I didn't call you to argue with you."
"Whatever..."
"I'll be home, soon, you know?" She asked, changing the subject, "Only two more weeks. Don't give up, mama."
I rolled my eyes, "And things are going to be different when you get back."
"Why do you say that?"
"I got signed to Syco today," I said slowly.
"...You're kidding."
"No, I'm not. Simon signed me... a few days ago maybe. It's all over the tabloids, Lauren, pay attention." I chuckled.
"Paige... stop playing games—OH my gosh!! You weren't kidding!"
"I wasn't, Lolo, see?"
"I'm so proud of you I'm reading the article right now! I leave you alone for two months and you go and get a record deal? That's insane!" She bubbled with excitement.
"Thanks, Bubs, I can't wait for you guys to get back. Pascal has gotten soo big!"
"Seriously? Is he there right now? Tell him Mama Lolo said hi and give him kisses for me. I promise, promise, promise I'm making up for all the lost time when we get back. You're gonna get me from the airport, right?"
"Of course, Jauregui," I looked over at the screen and Justin, "Hey mama?"
"Yeah?"
"I gotta go, I was in the middle of a movie with Jus. Text me later?"
"Oh...yeah sure." She said, disappointment hinging her voice.
"Lauren?"
"Yes?"
"Te amo y Te extrañé mucho maldita!"
"Did you just..." I could practically see her eyes widening at what I'd just said.
"Yup," I smile proudly, "I sure did."
"Did you mean it...?"
"Lauren Michelle Jauregui, of course I meant it, silly. Eres mi amor eterno."
"Awwww, carina, te quiero mucho!" She giggled, "Go watch your movie, butthead."
"Mkay... byeee Lauren."
"Byeeee Paigey!"
