Cold

It hurts,
He said.
You'll survive,
She replied.
You really don't care, do you?
He asked.
This is me caring-
If I didn't care I would have told you to back off
and go be depressed somewhere else, She answered.

You're just like everyone else,
He spat bitterly.
Says the one crying to his ex about a relationship
that was ruined by an inconsiderate, indecisive child
that couldn't make up her mind about what she wanted.
She said emotionlessly.

He was quiet.

Why are you so cold?
He asked in a whisper.
She shrugged.

You were never like this.
He stated.
You just never saw this side of me.
She stated in turn.

Why am I seeing this side now?
He asked angrily.
This is who I am now. Have been for a while.
Her calm voice rang.

How long?
He challenged.
Long enough,
She met his gaze with a cold stare.

She walked away.
He followed.

I won't let you walk away.
He stated in desperation.
He took her hand.
Then you're a bigger fool than I thought.
She whispered.

She kept walking-
Tears following in tow.
He ran after her.
Maybe I am a fool,
He whispered warmly.

He wiped her tears.
A single kiss stolen.
A single heart broken.

He stood alone.
She was gone.

I'm no one's second choice.
Was what kept her going.

I should have chosen her
Was what made him stay.
