Chapter 5

After Bella, Jacob and Renesmee had come back from the woods they told everyone who they saw. Carlisle immediately called Tanya to ask if she knew something.

"Tanya convinced Irina to come and apologize." Carlisle explained to the others and closed his phone.

"Well it looked like she changed her mind." Edward spoke from beside his daughter while they were sitting on the chair in front of the piano.

"It seems that Jacob must have been too much for her." Esme said from beside Carlisle.

"I wish I could have just spoken to her." Bella spoke a bit annoyed.

"She's family. She'll come around." Carlisle smiled and wrapped his arm around Esme's shoulder.

The short silence was broken by Edward starting to play the piano. He has started to teach Renesmee and she has started to learn quickly.

Irina went straight to the Volturi and told them what she saw.

"What a pleasant surprise." Aro spoke when Irina walked in the room.

Caius closed the book he was reading with a loud bang. "What do you want?" He asked.

"I have to report a crime. The Cullens... they have done something terrible." Irina explained.

The Cullens had no idea what had just happened. Now the Volturi knows about Renesmee.

Edward was teaching his daughter with a smile on his face while Carlisle and Esme were playing a game of chess beside them and the rest of the Cullens and Jacob watched Edward and Renesmee.

Alice entered the room with a vase of flowers in her hands.

But the happy scene in the Cullens living room changed when Alice's eyes widened and she dropped the vase on the floor making it shatter into the tiniest of pieces.

Jasper stood up from the couch in a flash and ran next to his mate and wife seeing if she was okay.

"What is it Alice?" He asked, concerned.

"The Volturi. They are coming for us." She answered. "Aro, Caius, Marcus, the guards... and Irina."

"Why?" Carlisle asked calmly and looked around the room trying to get an explanation.

"What did Irina see in the woods?" Edward then asked Bella.

"We were just walking." She answered.

"Ness was catching snowflakes." Jacob continued after Bella.

Edward was silent for a while but then spoke again. "Of course. Irina thinks Renesmee is an immortal child."

"The immortal children are very beautiful." Carlisle explained while placing a book in front of Bella. He opened a page which had a picture of a child. "So enchanting. But their development was frozen to the age they were turned. They couldn't be thought of or restrained. A single tantrum could destroy an entire village. The humans heard about the devastation. Stories spread. The Volturi were forced to intervene. And since the children couldn't protect our secret, they had to be destroyed." Carlisle explained to Bella, to everyone.

"Well Renesmee is nothing like these children. She was born, not bitten. She grows every single day." Bella spoke angrily.

"Can't you just explain that to the Volturi?" Jacob asked.

"Aro has enough proof from Irina's thoughts." Edward shook his head.

"So we fight!" Jacob stated demandingly.

"Their offensive weapons are too powerful. No one can stand a chance against Jane." Jasper explained.

"Alec is even worse." Alice said. "And if Eve would still be there it would be over from our side before we could even think differently. But luckily she isn't."

"So we convince them." Bella said.

"They are coming to kill us not to talk." Emmet tried to explain to Bella.

"No you are right. They won't listen to us. But maybe others can convince them. Carlisle, you have friends all around the world." Edward spoke.

"I won't ask them to fight." Carlisle shook his head.

"Not fight. Witness. If enough people knew the truth, maybe we could convince the Volturi to listen."

"We can ask this much from your friends." Esme placed her hand gently on top of Carlisle's.

Everyone was silent for a while looking at Carlisle and waiting for his answer. After a minute he smiled at Esme and took her hand in his and stroked her hand gently with his thumb.

And just like that it was settled. The Cullens would separate and go to find Carlisle's friends and ask them to witness.

The next morning everyone started to get ready. They packed a few bags with them and made sure that their cars were ready.

"We get to visit London again." Esme smiled while she and Carlisle packed a bag to take with them. "We haven't been there for a long time." Carlisle smiled at her and placed his hand on her cheek lovingly.

Edward, Bella, Jacob and Renesmee were going to go to Alaska to meet their cousins from Denali coven and Esme and Carlisle were first going to Egypt. They were all going to leave the next morning.

Suddenly Carlisle and Esme saw Sam Uley from the window. He walked in their yard with a piece of paper in his hand.

All the Cullens and Jacob walked outside to see what was going on and why Sam came.

"Alice told me to give you that." Sam explained to Carlisle, handing him the paper. "She and Jasper crossed our lands in the ocean last night."

"They left us." Carlisle spoke after reading the letter Alice had left.

"Why?" Rosalie asked, confused and a bit annoyed.

"She didn't say."

"Can I see that?" Bella stepped forward from beside Edward.

'Gather as many witnesses as you can before the snow sticks to the ground. That's when they'll come.' Read in the letter.

Everyone was silent for a while, thinking.

Why would they leave them in the most critical moment when they needed them the most? Why did they leave? Where did they go? What did they know?

Although Jasper and Alice had left, the rest still had the plan they needed to start and complete. Gather as many witnesses as they could. Travel around the world looking for Carlisle's friends and ask them to witness.
