*Knock, knock, knock*

Garrett knocked on Eve's room door.

"Yes?" She answered.

Garrett opened the door and looked at the woman sitting on a white couch.

"Can I come in?" Garrett flashed her a small grin.

"Mhm." She nodded.

Garrett closed the door behind him and walked in the room looking around.

"I like your room. It's cozy." He spoke while looking around.

"Thank you."

"Can I sit?" Garrett pointed at the seat beside Eve. Eve nodded and he took a seat next to her.

The two sat in silence for a while but it wasn't an awkward but comfortable silence. They felt comfortable in each other's presence. And the want to be in each other's presence only grew.

"You're probably wondering why I'm here. I just wanted to come and talk. If you want, of course." Garrett was the first to speak up from the two.

"Talking sounds nice." Eve nodded.

"So where does the name Eve come from?" Garrett leaned his elbows on his knees and listened.

"It comes from Evangeline." Eve answered simply.

"Sounds like an angel."

"I really don't know if you are trying to flirt with me or are you just stating facts."

"Can't I do both?" Garrett gave her a small smirk.

Eve rolled her eyes but she couldn't help the small smile form on her lips.

Although she tried to act like she didn't care, the mate bond was pulling her closer making her guard start to crumble.

"So why are you here alone angel?" Garrett asked.

"I like being alone. Haven't really needed anyone for over eighty years so it feels a bit weird to be around so many people for a long time."

"I understand." He nodded. "I haven't really been with other people either. But this has been nice."

"A change in scenery."

"Definitely." Garrett nodded in agreement. "I'm sorry if this comes too quickly but you are really beautiful."

Eve's eyes widened slightly. She wasn't expecting to get complimented.

"Sorry. Was that too much?" Garrett asked. He was afraid he had made the woman uncomfortable.

"No. It wasn't. I was just not expecting that." She shrugged, explaining with a gentle voice.

"Good. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable in any way."

"You won't." Eve gave Garrett a small smile.

"Good, good." Garrett nodded his head with a small smile.

"So Bella's training is tomorrow. Are you going to show your powers?" Eve questioned.

"I don't have any special abilities." Garrett shrugged.

Eve nodded her head. "I hate mine. I haven't used my 'gift' in over eighty years." She explained while brushing a loose strand of her black hair behind her ear feeling a bit nervous.

"Can I ask why?" Garrett turned to look at her.

"My 'gift' doesn't bring nothing more than pain and suffering into this world. I was... I was forced to use it against the offenders back in Volterra."

"I completely understand if you don't want to tell me what your gift is. But I can't help but be curious."

"I can manipulate the venom inside the vampire or the blood inside a human. I can use them like puppets. Move them, force them to do whatever I want. They can't control their own body when my power is over them." Eve answered with a quiet voice. "Together me, Jane and Alec were the most powerful and feared weapon the Volturi's have ever had."

Garrett didn't know what to say at first. He just stayed silent and sat beside Eve.

Eve kept her head low and looked at her hands. "So many people and vampires have died because of me, because of my so- called gift."

"When you say you can use them as your puppets and make them do whatever you want. You can-"

"I can make them hurt themselves, hurt each other..." Eve whispered. "Snap their necks with just a slight movement of my wrist. I have complete control over them."

"I have heard of the feared weapon that the redcoats have. I just never thought..."

"It's okay. I'm out of that place now. Don't get me wrong, living as one of the Volturi's isn't bad. It's just... unfortunate that I happened to be a part of Aro's weapon." Eve shrugged.

"How do you feel now? When you know that they are coming here?" Garrett asked and gently placed his hand on Eve's shoulder.

"I don't know. Anxious."

"Understandable." Garrett nodded. "I think we all are but you have a completely different reason for that."

"I didn't tell them when I left. Well I told one of them... I was close to him. But none of the others knew. One night I was just gone." Eve explained.

"I will be here for you, if you want me to. I'll protect you although I know that you can take care of yourself. Let's not be complete strangers anymore?" Garrett suggested with a smile. "Let's take things slow. Move at our own pace."

"I would like that." Eve nodded.
