"Nope I'm not doing it", my dad said.
"Why?"
"Because that's too much to go through Maya", my dad replied.
I sighed.
"Dad, I'm telling you, you're not safe here", I said.
"Maybe not. But I'm not going anywhere until I find out who vandalized my car."
"Why are you so stubborn?!"
"Why are you so concerned?!", he argued back.
"Because, our lives are at stake", I replied.
"So what do you want me to do? Leave the house and go into protective custody?"
"Yes", I said.
"Heck no! I will not be placed under arrest for something I did not do!"
"Dad you're not being arrested. You're being placed in protective custody for your own protection!", I replied.
"Protection from what?"
I shook my head.
"We are being targeted and the only place you will be safe at is in the police station", I replied.
"Me? What about you?"
"I've already got a place in mind Dad", I replied.
"Oh really? And where's that?"
"Just know I'm safe there", I said.
He rolled his eyes and looked out his window.
"Oh dang."
"What is it?", I asked.
"The police are here."
"What? Now?", I asked.
"Yeah."
He went to go and open the door.
"Officer please leave us alone", my dad said.
"We're just doing our job Mr. Poole", he replied.
"I ain't going into no protective custody."
"Well you're not safe here", he replied.
"I don't care. I would rather be trapped in this house than to go to the station with you guys."
The police officer shook his head.
"Sir, we have been informed that you are being targeted."
"And?"
"And you could be attacked at any given moment", he replied.
My dad looked the officer in his eyes.
"I am not going into protective custody", he said.
"Fine, then we have no other choice but to arrest you and take you down to the station", the officer replied.
"I'd like to see you try."
I grabbed my dad's arm.
"Dad, what are you doing?", I asked.
"I'm not going with them Maya."
"They are going to arrest you", I replied.
"They can't do that."
"Dad, protective custody can be voluntary or involuntary", I said.
He sighed.
"Fine. I'll go, but promise me you'll stay safe."
"I will", I replied giving him a hug.
The police escorted him out.
I knew that would be the only place my dad would be safe at. Naomi and Tyson would never think of going to the police station. And if they did, it would be there biggest regret. I was done playing games. I wanted war. I wanted a battle that I would always remember. And even though I never thought of me and Naomi being enemies, I knew I had to protect my family at all cost. Like my mom said. "She's dangerous." But in the end I was the baddie. The person who got to keep the man and my life. The one who didn't just fight, but proved that she can be just as cruel as the rest. The last thing I would want to be is mean. But she's pushed me to the point where I can't be anything but that. I'm now the Queen of Mean.
