The day was great. On my way taking MK to school this morning, he was talking about how excited he was about Family Day at school tomorrow. An event his school is having for the kids and their parents, and now I was on my way to pick MK up.
I parked the Tuk-tuk, watching kids run to their parents.
I see MK getting into the Tuk-tuk with a sad look.
"Hey, what's wrong, bud?" I asked him.
"Nothing's wrong, Mama." He mumbled, crossing his arms.
"You sure? I'm right here if you need to talk." I said in a comforting tone.
"I don't want to talk about it, Mama. Can we just go home now?" He asks with a touch of sadness in his voice.
I gave him a concerned look but decided to ask more when we got home. "Sure thing, bud."
When we got home, MK didn't even say "hi" to Pigsy and Tang like he usually does., which made me even more concerned.
Now, I was cooking noodles for dinner, cause why not? MK loves noodles, especially when I make them.
I sat some noodles in front of him, watching him take a fork and just pick at them.
After a few minutes of dinner, MK was still picking at his food.
I sighed, not wanting to see him like this. "MK, bud, are you sure you're okay? You love noodles, and you're just picking at them, so tell me what's wrong?"
He put his fork, looking at me as tiny little tears pricked his face. "Kids at school were making fun of me."
"Aw, baby." I got up, holding him in my arms. "Why were kids making fun of you?" I rubbed his back soothingly.
"You know how it's Family Day tomorrow?" He sniffed.
"Yes." I nodded.
"They were making fun of me 'cause I don't have a dad, and they were saying mean things about you when I said I at least have a mom." He held hugged me tight, tears running down his face.
"Shh, Shh, it's okay." I wiped the tears off his face. "Those kids are probably just jealous that you have a loving mom like me."
"Really?" He sniffed.
"Yeah. Here, how about you finish your noodles, get ready for bed, and when you wake up in the morning, everything will be all better?" I suggested.
He nodded, wiping his face off, and started to eat his noodles, but still looked a little down.
After he was done eating, he put on his Monkey King pj's, laying in bed.
"MK, I have to go out and get a few things, but if you need anything, Pigsy and Tang are right downstairs in the restaurant." I tucked him in.
"Okay, Mama. Goodnight." He yawned, falling asleep.
"Goodnight, bud." I planted a kiss on his forehead, heading downstairs.
Before I left to go get a few items, I made sure to tell Pigsy and Tang to watch MK, and if they didn't, I'd have their heads.
I went to a small convenience store down the street, looking for the items I needed to get.
A while later finding some of the stuff I needed, all I had left was one more item.
As I scoured the store, my mind couldn't help but think of how sad MK looked when he said kids made fun of him for not having a dad.
I sighed. "Oh MK, I wish there was some way to make you feel better."
I continued to look around until I found the item I needed, but it was on a high shelf, and I wasn't able to reach it.
