Have you ever felt pity about yourself? Have you ever felt being worthless? not enough? not worthy of other people's attention ? because if you feel those, you are seeking for validation from other people and when they didn't? you felt rejected, and it has to stop.
While I'm writing this, I just think of those days I kept on doing my best not for myself but for others. Those times where I want to prove them that I can do a thing and I want them to be proud of me. I think we all wanted that. We wanted to be acknowledged in every little thing we do, we want someone to appreciate us, we want them to see us.
According to research, validation is the recognition or that a person or their feelings or opinions are valid or worthwhile meaning, when you did something you want other people to recognize what you did in that way you feel validated or you feel like you belonged and you are not alone.
Seeking validation is different from seeking motivation. Appraisal, the compliments, the support from other people helps you to be motivated and continue what you are doing. On the other hand, seeking validation isn't a good trait for you to practice. When people seek validation it includes expectations, and if those people doesn't meet your expectations that is the time you feel rejected, worthless,unworthy, and worst you feel pity about yourself.
As years gone by, I end up realizing that it shouldn't be like that. We should not do the things that we love just to feel appreciated. Trying your best is a good thing but, trying your best for other people's attention is not. If you want to try your best, do it not because of other people, not because you seek for their validation but, do it for yourself.
I want you to remember that, your worth is not measured on how many people see you, appreciate you because, in this world that is full of unexpected things, all you have to do is stop expecting a lot from other people but expect that you can do better every day and that you are best in everything you do. The best fight that you can give is to fight for those negative feelings that surrounds you, you want to do writing? do it not for the readers but because you like to write your thoughts and inspire other people. You want to be an academic achiever? do it not for your parents but because you you are capable of becoming one. Stop expecting from other people and become the better version of yourself. Believe in yourself that's the most important armor when you are in your own mental battle.
It will take time to realize it but, when that time comes I want you to understand that you are not being selfish for choosing yourself, you are just brave enough not to care on how people perceive you, what you think about yourself is the most important ingredients to have a healthy well being. Choose yourself this time, do what makes you happy and in a right way.
