Chapter 22

(POV: Salami Shinazugawa)

We ventured deeper into the forest.. is that the right word..? Eh whatever.. I could care less. Two annoying shits are accompanying me. Luckily they're accompanying each other so they won't bother me... that was a bunch of huge words.

"Ara Ara, Shinazugawa-San?"
Shinobu had turned her head to me.
I rolled my eyes, "What."

She smiled, "What were you doing at Tomioka-San's home? Clearly you were there earlier before I arrived too."

I crossed my arms.
"None of your business."

Sabito raised an eyebrow, "You won't tell her?"
I glared at him, "Dumbass! She is the last person who should know!"
Sabito giggled at the response while Shinobu kept smiling, she was pissed now. I could tell.

"He ran from.. uh.. I guess you could say a date we were going to have.." I flustered and looked away. Shinobu made a small quiet laugh.
"What?!" I stared at her.
"You and Tomioka-San had a date planned? I knew something was up with you two.."
I glared at her warningly.

Sabito looked to her and then back at me then back to her, "You're a Kocho aren't you?"
Her eyes opened a tad in shock.
"Sabito!!" I yelled at him. If he said something about Kanae to her she might snap, and I do not need to see that.
"Why yes I am. How did you come to that assumption?" She responded, smiling.
"Well.." Sabito paused, "A lucky guess."
He turned to me and grinned, I rolled my eyes.

"Alright then.." She didn't sound very convinced.
I groaned, "Sabito are we almost there? I can't wait for your annoyance to leave me alone."
He elbowed me, "Yes we are almost there but we have to tell her."

I made a confused face, "Huh-? Oh."
Shinobu looked confused, "Tell me what?"
I glared at Sabito, he clearly was making me do the talking.. again..

"He's a fucking ghost."
Sabito bursted out laughing.

"What?!" I yelled at him.

"Th-That's the be-best explanation you could come up with?! I'm dying again over here!!"
He responded, still laughing.

Shinobu's eyes moved between each of us,
"A ghost? Don't be silly Shinazugawa-San. Sabito-kun could not be a...-"
He disappeared.

I grumbled, "Sabito get back over here!!"
He appeared in front of us, smiling.
"Boo~!!"
Shinobu was shocked.

"Yeah, just don't tell Giyuu." I scoffed.

She quickly recovered, "Did you get that close to Tomioka-San that you could call him by his first name~?"

I turned red, "KOCHO!!!"
She laughed.

(POV: Tomioka Giyuu)

I slowly opened my eyes.. I think I passed out..
I looked around myself, I'm not next to that rock anymore.. how did I get here?

I stood up, continuing to look for people. Nothing.. I still wonder how I got here?

I heard something, quickly turning around as I put my hand on the handle of my sword.
"Huh..?"
All I saw was a glimpse of.. peach hair...
Whatever it was.. it disappeared before I could get a good look..

For once I actually felt.. scared of the hidden.. person. It was a person.. the thought randomly came to me. I sucked a quick breath.
"Sabito.. if you're here.. show me a sign.."
My heart ache thinking about him but I had to call out. If he was.. watching me..

I shook my head, "I'm just being delusional.."
I said aloud as I sunk to the ground. I didn't want to cry or.. anything. I wished I could just disappear.. see Sabito one last time..

I smiled.. then my thoughts turned to Sanemi..
I frowned, clutching my chest.
What am I doing..? This would hurt him as much as it's helping me..
I automatically slapped myself in the face,
"Stop it Giyuu!! Stop it, stop it, stop it!!"
I crossed my arms, forcing myself to fight tears.
I'm pathetic..
A pathetic hashira..
A pathetic excuse for a hashira..

"KOCHO!!"
I jumped, looking around. That voice.. nonononono.. how did they find me..? Sanemi..? No!!
I got onto my feet. They found me.. I can't slip away.. what do I do.. what do I do.. please don't find me..
I melted onto the ground, not being able to fight tears anymore.
I don't want them to find me..
I looked at my sword..
They'll find me.. if they do I rather them find me dead..
I pulled the sword and rested it up to my neck.

I looked up, all my problems.. going away..
is this how a demon feels? But instead fearful..? Or is this how a demon that Tanjiro kills.. is this how they feel? Happy..? Satisfied with life..?
I will have to ask..
I slowly get ready until..
"GIYUU!!"

I looked up, my face still tear stained.
Before I knew it Sanemi knocked the sword away from me and picked me up, hugging me.
"S-Sanemi.. I-.."
"Shut up," he cut me off.
I felt myself tearing up again and I hugged back, quivering with sobs.
"I'm sorry.. I'm sorry.. the past got to me.." I muttered.
"No Giyuu.. it's my fault. I shouldn't have gotten into your personal business. I provoked this." He said in response.

I didn't want to let go of him, not again, never.
I looked up and saw Shinobu.
She looked.. happy? For the first time I had seen her genuinely happy.

I looked at them both, not daring to let go of Sanemi, "How did you find me..?"

"That will be a secret," Sanemi said quickly. Shinobu just smiled in agreement.

"Sanemi..?" I said.
"Yes..?"
"Can you carry me back to my house..?"
He laughed slightly, "Of course, I think I planned to anyways."
He quickly picked me up, and walked me home.

I think.. I'm finally happy with them..
Happy.. for good.
Time to put the past behind me..

(3rd person Omni:)

And that was it, Sabito smiled.
He finally can rest. He gets to see his friends again. He watched the group as they walked away.
"Finally time to go back to heaven,"
Another voice said.
Sabito turned around, "It seems so Kanae."
Kanae smiled, "I think we've satisfied them both and we can be free."
Sabito laughed, "What is it with tying souls to their past lovers?"
Kanae smiled, "No clue, but now you can go see your little female fox friend~"
Sabito's face flared up, "Kanae!! She's my friend!!"
"Yeah right~" She turned and entered the light.
Sabito shook his head and looked at the group one last time.
"See you on the other side, Giyuu."

He smiled and entered.
