Hunger

CHAPTER 3

Jacob's snoring woke me. I opened my eyes and sat up, spotting him lounging across the dark room in a recliner. I giggled to myself.

"You're up." Mom whispered, appearing in the doorway.

"How long has he been here?" I asked very softly, not to wake him.

"About an hour."

I swung my feet off the bed and stood up.

That's when the blinding pain hit my stomach, doubling me over and making me fall to my knees in pain.

I tried to hold back a scream, but it was impossible.

The light flipped on and my mom was at my side in a second. "Edward!" she shrieked frantically. "Carlisle! Someone help!"

I was lying on my back now, rolling in pain as I clutched my stomach. Mom's hands were pinning me down.

I heard everyone downstairs whoosh into grandma and grandpa's room.

"What the hell happened!?" Jacob yelled, kneeling beside me.

"Oww! Make it stop!" I sobbed. My voice broke on the last word.

"What happened Bella!?" Dad's worried voice demanded roughly from behind me.

"She just..." Mom's voice broke off.

The next thing shocked us all.

Right as I was telling Mom not to worry, a fountain of blood poured out of my mouth, cutting me off. It choked off my breath, incapacitating me and making me panic. I turned on my side, and caught the glimpse of horror in Mom's eyes.

"Jasper! Out!" Grandpa ordered.

The blood gush stopped a brief second so I could catch my breath. I turned back on my back, and then all of a sudden I wasn't in control of my body anymore.

It started shaking just as the blood started pouring out of my mouth this time.

I couldn't move to spit out all the blood, so I started choking on it.

The horrific gurgling sound coming from me, made everyone freeze in shock.

"Turn her on her side!" Grandpa ordered. "Go get some towels Edward!"

His voice then was closer to me now as he said, "Bella, I need you to leave. I have to work on her."

"Renesmee." Mom's pained voice whispered.

After that, I blacked out.
