10: Grandma... (Eunhye POV)

The bell rang and class is now starting. Super tired... I yawn. It's gonna be one long day...

"Okay class! Today we will be reading from the text book on page 23. Please read silently and we will come back and discuss as a whole class. You may now begin." Mr.Lee says.

Everyone complains and groans as they get out their text book. I get my textbook out and start reading. None of the things we learn in class makes sense.. But luckily I'm getting good grades in all my classes. But our parents expect a lot out of us... Especially if we are the oldest. I sigh.. I turn my head to look across the room at Chanyeol. He got switched to the other side a few weeks ago, but he's quietly reading the book . He seems to be understanding.. I think? Then like he got this instant signal, he turns his head to look at me. He seems shocked to see me staring at him but then he suddenly smiles at me (with his dimples) and waves. I wave back smiling.

Then suddenly the announcers turn on :

"Kang Eunhye please report to the office with your backpack."

What?? Hopefully I'm not in trouble! But then again... I didn't do anything I wasn't suppose to do... Confused I gather my things and look back at chanyeol. He looks at me confused also but waves goodbye . I wave goodbye and mouth that I'll message him later that night.

As I finally reach the office, I open the door with my heart racing without knowing why.

"Hi, um... The office needed me? I'm Kang Eunhye."

The lady looks up to me and smiles a sad one.

"Your parents called you in saying they are taking you out of the school for the day. They said they'll tell you why when they come and get you." She says

"Ohhh okay then.." I reply . I walk down to the seats and take a seat.

After about waiting for 5 minutes, my parents finally arrive at the office. They said thank you and they both take me out. When we reach the car, I see Shin ae and shin hyun. I open the door and say hi to them. They say hi back.

"So what's the reason for you to take us out of school?" I ask mom and dad.

Mom looks back at me with tears in her eyes. "Grandma is in the hospital, earlier today she had a heart attack and her immune system is very weak. We aren't sure how long she will last.."

Right when mom had said those words, I felt as if my heart had also stopped for a second.

I continue to look out the window. A gloomy day it is.. We reach the hospital and quickly walk up to grandmas room. When we open the door, we see all our other family members . Even ones from far away . The room was full of sadness as everyone gathers around grandma crying and sniffling. She was talking a little but she just sat in the bed looking very weak. Tears started to fill my eyes as I saw my grandma helpless on the hospital bed. Just the other day when I had seen her... She was healthy and smiling.

My grandma and I were close ever since I was a kid. She was the one who had watched over my siblings and I when our parents were busy. She fed us, took us to the park, bathed us, talked to us, made us laugh when we were sad... And in return, none of us really gave anything back, my grandmas heart was full of love. ... She was a strong women.

"Grandma..." I said in a weak tone. She turned to me and smiled a weak smile. I started to walk toward her. "Grandma..." As I reach her, i finally broke out crying.

She started to pat my head when I went to her crying on her chest. "It's okay. I'll be fine.." Her voice croaked. But the thing was... I couldn't stop crying because she won't be fine... And all those memories of grandma made me cry even harder.

"I love you grandma.." I sobbed. "I want you to know that..."

"I know , I know.." She replied

"This Sunday is my birthday... So can you say happy birthday?"

"Happy birthday Eunhye.. You are a very bright girl. Don't let anyone ruin that. Continue to do well in school and don't lose hope. Love your family with all of your heart. ... Treasure those around you who love you a lot.. Don't let them go no matter how hard the situation is.. And know that I love you very much Eunhye." She whispered. "I also want you to take this necklace I've had since I was a kid. Early birthday present."

She hands me the necklace and places it into my hands.

"Grandma...." I wept. "Remember me, I won't forget you."

She breathed heavily as I backed away crying my heart out. I know those would eventually be her last words to me.

I stood in the waiting room. Time had seemed endless at this point. My cousin and I looked out the window when someone came into the waiting room . My mom.

"Grandma passed away.." She said

Her words echoed in my head. Grandma passed away. My healthy grandma had passed away.

I quickly ran to the room with my cousin behind me. We enter the room and everyone was sobbing to grandma. I made my way to the bed and held her small hands in mine. Tears overflowed as I kept repeating grandma, grandma.. Grandma.
