Giuseppe's world was crushed this morning

Giuseppe's world was crushed this morning. His worst fears came to life as his sister ran into their bedroom, screaming their father was dead. His thoughts were all over the place as he wondered how his father ended up in the pool. Giuse wanted to know if he killed himself to avoid losing his family memories. Or was it a freak accident? Neither was a good thought as he and Regenia entered his parents' home. Instead of going to find his mother, Giuseppe found himself wondering to the pool as he found his Nonno sitting on the edge.

"I never thought to tell the workers to lock the gate. When he came home last night, it seemed like he was back to himself. Your Madre didn't even feel him leave the bed. This is my fault... I led him to believe he had my conduction—"

"That's not true, Nonno. Dementia is thought to be hereditary, and it was easy to assume Padre had it. Still, he should have known to get a second opinion. Are we sure this was an accident?" He asked as his Nonno nodded with a sigh. It was hard to think about, but they all knew Giovanni Jr was stubborn as his old man. With his thought progress, the man might have thought it was better to take himself out.

"He talked about killing himself before letting the tumor kill him, but I don't think he would have done it like this. He was—" The old man paused, shaking his head as tears ran down his face, which would have surprised most. His Nonno hardly showed his emotion, except when his Nonna died and today. Like any other mafia man, their wife and kids meant the world to him. Giovanni Sr loved his son no matter how much he and his father stayed at each other throats.

"Nonno, it's okay. I understand we don't need to take about it right now. I didn't mean to stir up your emotions. You don't need this—"

"You think I can't handle talking about what happened here because I'm old? Your father was terrified of water when he was a child. As the asshole, I was used to forcing him into this very pool to teach him how to swim. Daniella... your Nonna hated every time I did it, but if he was to be the next great Don like he was. He needed to know how to swim." He spoke as Giuseppe nicely sat on one of the lounge chairs.

"I never knew him to be afraid of anything. When we were younger, he used to love getting in the pool, teaching us how to swim on his own. Was there a reason why he has scared of water?"

"He almost drowned. If this was an accident, his memory slipped back to that point. He relived it. I should've filled this stupid thing up, but your Nonna loved this pool. I did anything to make her happy. Now she's gone and my firstborn, but I'm still stuck on this God Forsaken earth. He should have taken me and spared my child's life." Giovanni Sr spoke while Giuseppe reached out and touched his Nonno's shoulder. There wasn't much he could say or do because he didn't understand his pain.

Yes, his father died, but their pain was different. Giuse mourned the death of a parent as his grandfather grieved for a child. Seeing their child leave this earth before them was their worst fear, like any other parent. Most of the time, it was something they had to endure. Therefore, it was nothing he could do for his Nonno but kiss the man's forehead and leave to see his mother. She wasn't hard to find. Like all the rest, Caterina was in his father's favorite spot—Giovanni's barroom drinking wine straight from the bottle.
