Chapter 14

Melody POV

When we were making our way to the scream I stopped and turned to a light in the distance on the side of the boat. Ace was already out of sight when I looked back for him. Instead I went to the railing and stared closely. The light shined Infront of a flag one I could never forget. Its symbol was the pirates who wrecked my town. The Skully pirates. On the stream from the light of the skully pirates something was moving towards their ship.....a boat. I looked closer and saw a smiling teach and a gun in his hand aiming right at me. I gasped as the shot went off and it hit me in my shoulder just above my heart. I fell to the deck. A cry of pain left my mouth. In seconds ace was back at my side.

"Shit Mel!" He said as he held my head. "Who!?" He yelled tears beginning to fill his eyes. I placed my hands on his face.

"It's fine I'm okay!" I said. The nurses rushed in a few minutes later and scooped me up in a stretcher. Ace wouldn't let go of my hand until we came to the operation room and he couldn't go past the doors. I had kept up a brave face Infront of him. When he wasn't in sight Jenna came in front of me.

"You did well holding up with out crying in pain or blacking out from the loss of blood. you did well." It was like she was telling me it's okay now and I can let go for a bit and so She put a mask on my face as tears began to fall."Leave it to us ok" she said and I blacked out.

~Ace POV

"Damn it damn it damn it." the only words that came out along with the tears as I sat out side the operating room. why her! I punched the wall in frustration. Then after a few hours of sitting there Jenna came out. I stood up and looked at her. She took her mask off and a gentle smile lit her face.

"She's going to be okay." Jenna said.

"Can I see her?" Jenna shook her head.

"No maybe later allow her to rest." Jenna said.

"Okay." I turned around and headed to the commanders office where everyone was called to but I didn't go until I knew Melody was ok. As I opened the doors I was greeted with a room filled with sorrow. I slowly entered and took my seat. Pops nodded towards me.

"Ace my son how is she." pops asked.

"She'll recover." I said and sound of relief filled the room.

"That is one problem resolved. now as for thatch and Teach." pops began to say but I cut in.

"I'll do it. I will give him the punishment for what he did. We all know killing a member of our crew means your own life." I said. "Teach was my subordinate I should have had a better eye on him. I will handle it." I finished and the room stayed silent everyone looked from me to pops. He only sighed.

"I understand. You will have the job of hunting down Teach or black beard as he likes to be called. To think one of my children dead by another child I would feel comfortable with me going to give the punishment but I understand how you feel about it. The job of black beard will be on you Ace. Now that that is done. We have a fallen family member tonight. not only a family member but a commander at that. We need to give a proper burial along with a new commander as well. We also need to get some control over our family. We need to be in touch with all of our brothers and sisters on personal levels and keep eyes on all of them. We treat everyone like family on this ship. So as for Thatch's burial ceremony it will be held at our island make sure our crew knows we will be going to that island. Along with the laws of this crew. Also Bay please check on Lila the poor girl just watch her beloved die infront of her." Pops stated.

"Yes father." bay replied.

"Who is going to fill the position of Thatch?!" Pops asked. We all gave glances to eachother knowing we have to make a decision.

"Lila? She was second in command in Thatches division." one of the other commanders said.

"No Lila is not in the state of mind." pops said.

"Melody?" Bay said. I glanced towards her.

"Melody is injured.." I said

"Yea but she's not in fatal injuries right?" Bay added.

"Listen in the past couple of months she has made a big impact on this crew everyone loves her and respects her I nominate Fiora D Melody for the position of fourth division commander." bay said. I looked around the room at the other commanders who were discussing it among each other.

"I second the nomination." I looked towards Marco who held his hand up. He just sat there coldly. I watched as hands in the room began to raise in the air. Everyone hand except mine.

"Ace?" Pops said. "It has to be a unanimous decision." Pops included. I sighed and raised my hand.

"Alright that takes care of this meeting. Go my children and remember what we talked about and remember our fallen brother." Pops dismissed us and everyone filed out of the room as for me I went to my room fist to pack and write a letter to Mel and then I went to the hospital wing where melody was sleeping. I asked Jenna nicely to let me see her and she gave in. I walked into the room where melody laid on a bed. I look at the bandages around her shoulder and chest. I sighed and then came to the side of the bed. I got in slowly and hugged melody gently she didn't mind obviously as she snuggled into me. I wished this whole day didn't happen.

~In the Morning

I felt squirming on me and the bed and I began to open my eyes. I looked at a blushing melody and smirked.

"Good morning." I said in a sleepy voice. She nuzzled close to me.

"Good morning I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you." she said sweetly. She was being sweet and it caused me to smile.

"It's okay what's wrong." I said and looked down at her.

"I woke up with pain so I was moving and thought it was you until I remembered what happened." I nodded. "hey what was the loud scream before well before mine?" She said. I remembered last night and tears filled my eyes. Mel noticed an sat up to wipe them away.

"Ace what? What's wrong!?" She said scared and worry filling her voice.

"Last night the noise you and I heard.... I followed it not noticing that you stopped.. I'm sorry.."

"No it's okay Ace. It's not your fault!" She said smiling at me.

"But it is you and thatch. I should have been there for both of you. last night the scream was coming from Lila who was found holding a lifeless Thatch." I said it slowly so it could sink in for melody and when it did tears began to fill her eyes.

"No how who why??" She was shaking and the words came out in sobs. I hugged her an whispered in her ear that I know and it's going to be okay. We laid there for awhile and through all the tears we both took another small nap together.

This time when I woke up I left her sleeping.

I walked out of the infirmary and ran into bay. She had her sketch book in her hand and a glass of water in the other.

"Whoa there. Watch it." she said as she balanced the cup of water trying to avoid a spill but then looked up an saw me an smiled gently.

"Sorry are you okay?"i asked an she nodded I returned the gesture an made my way past her.

"Ace where are you going?" Bay said an I stopped in my tracks. "don't you think you should at least wait until Melody is all better before you go?" Bay added. I sighed an looked at her. I pulled a letter I had written before I went to see melody after the meeting an handed it to bay.

"Give her this when she wakes up." I handed her the letter an ignored her persistent on me staying. I made my way to my room. When I got there I grabbed my bag an threw a shirt on. As I closed my door I took one more look at my room an a smile crept onto my face at all the memories. I closed the door an made my way to the top deck an to white beard.

"Ace my son I thought you were with melody?" Pops said as I approached him.

"I was but I left her in Bay's hands. I'm leaving to find teach." I said calmly. Pops nodded.

"I see, well have a safe journey My son." pops said. I nodded and headed towards my striker only to be stopped.
