Lydia
It's the presentation's day. Enzo and I agreed on singing the song dually. He'll be singing the part he wrote, while I'll be singing mine and we will sing the refrain together.
We're the last pair to go for the presentation. Jane and Kevin finish their song with a high note. The professor doesn't like it. I agree with her. Ending a song with only a high note is not quite a good decision, because the listener won't be satisfied, he will be waiting for the beat to go down.
It's our turn. Enzo takes a seat and holds his guitar. I stand next to him. I'm surprisingly soothed. About 20 people are sitting in front of me, waiting for me to sing. However, my body is not shaking, my throat doesn't clench and I'm not drowning in sweat.
It's Enzo. Enzo changed everything.
Enzo snaps his fingers in my direction. Everyone is staring at me. I kinda spent too much time drowning in my thoughts.
Wait, does that mean that I've been staring at Enzo this whole time?
Shit!
I clear my throat. I warm up my voice. I nod to Enzo telling him that I'm ready to start and he nods back. He starts playing the melody which turns out that he has already worked on it while writing his part. I admit, Enzo is so good at this. I thought he was being cocky when he told me that writing a song is so easy for him.
No wonder why he's dreaming about becoming a guitarist with a popular band.
I sing the part that I wrote. Enzo replies to me with his part. We sing the refrain together. Despite his deep voice, he manages to match my chords.
We arrive at the part which I argued with him about it. 'Rewriting the stars' that seemed fictitious to me.
My verse that I wrote about it is "Funny how you want it to restart, 'cause no one can ever rewrite the stars".
Enzo replies to that by singing "You're my star and I want you to shine in my sky".
He's not talking about me. He's not talking about me. I remind myself.
We sing the refrain one more time. I take a deep breath and I let it out lightly. I drown in relief. We finally finished the song. I nod my head following the rhyme, waiting for Enzo to end the song.
"I know I hurt you, but I wanna change the past.
I hope you can see that my love for you will always last.
You gave me hope and brought me out of my despair.
I want to hold you close and show you that I care".
Enzo suddenly sings softly. He ends the melody with the 'Em' chord. We all know what kind of vibe that chord gives. It's a sad chord. It's a chord that can play with your emotions. It's a romantic chord that can make you wanna slow dance with your lover.
We didn't agree on that part he had just sung. I had no idea about it. It sounds like a confession and Enzo's glossy eyes are confirming that.
Everyone claps. I use their cheers as a reason to take my eyes off Enzo.
