➸ Wednesday
_______________Andy slumps herself onto the leather couch in between Mika and Renz. The sound of a heart beat echoing through the sound bar mimics that of her own—loud and fast paced.
Mason and Riley are on a single leather couch, the eldest perched on Mason's lap. The latter has her arms wrapped around Riley's waist. "I think we should get those ones." Andy watches them carefully. They've been inseparable all night.
Andy had been thinking to herself for most of the evening. Her conversation with Mika had struck her—she was on the basis of wanting to know and wanting to let go. Either seemed just as hurtful.
She swallowed the emptiness in her throat that was once a lump of wanting, longing and wishing that something could happen in her favour. Andy knew deep down that it could never happen.
Never in this lifetime. Maybe in no lifetime at all. The look on Riley's face as she looked into Mason's eyes said it all—they're meant for each other. Nothing could ever pull them apart.
Andy knew that for a fact. But would it hurt to think it was still somewhat of a possibility? She closed her eyes briefly and felt warmth on her skin. Mika rests her left hand on her right leg. "Are you feeling dizzy again?" The eldest had kept an eye on her since she walked through the front door. Andy felt grateful for Mika's kindness.
"No, I'm okay." Andy shook her head. "I think I'm just feeling a little sleepy." She lied.
Andy didn't want to bother the older girl any longer than she already had—not that she did or anything. She felt that she'd rather keep it in than let it all out in a room where the walls were too thin and her heart laid out on her sleeve.
Mika smiled warmly and gave her a reassuring nod. Renz seemed to be in her own little world—too engulfed with the sight of a broad shouldered Conrad Fisher. The same could be said about the couple in the far left corner of the living room.
"Even if we get matching ones you're gonna end up wearing mine." Mason chuckled. Her safari browser displays a beige oversized hoodie with a love heart sewn onto the hem of the sleeve.
Riley kisses her cheek and giggles. "It's not my fault that your hoodies are always comfy." She explained. "They also smell really good."
Mason rolls her eyes. "Just say you have a crush on me." She joked teasingly. Riley smacks her playfully on the shoulder before taking the phone away from the latter. "Hey—"
Mason watches her girlfriend attentively. "There. I bought them." She hands the phone back to its rightful owner—an order confirmation is displayed on the blue screen. Riley felt proud.
Mason squeezed her tighter and laughed at the sight of the order confirmation. A couple hoodie that they'll wear together once before Riley claims ownership of her girlfriends hoodie—more or less for the mere fact of it belonging to the girl and it smelling 'really nice'.
Andy felt a pain in her chest that spread like wildfire all throughout her body. She could feel an oncoming shortness of breath mixed with a fluttering heart, hot flashes and faster breathing.
The underlying pressure had now taken a toll on the girl. She could feel her body grow weak with every passing second. "Andy." Mika spoke.
The eldest shifts in her seat for the first time since they've sat down. "333." She whispered.
The 3 3 3 rule for anxiety. Mika had experienced this countless times before. This time was no different. She ushers Renz to turn the TV off for a brief moment. "Can you get me a glass of water."
Renz does what she's told and walks over to the kitchen to get Andy a glass of water. "Mason can you get—" The sound of feet shuffling in the distance draws her attention away for a brief moment. "Where did that girl go?"
Andy shakily points towards the end of the hall. "They left." She breathed. Mika cups the girls face and shakes her head slowly. "Shh, don't talk. Do you know the 3-3-3 rule?" She wondered.
Andy nodded immediately.
"Alright. Look for three objects around the room." She watches the girl attentively as her eyes pace around the room slowly looking for objects. "That's good. Now three sounds."
Andy takes in the sound of Mika's voice followed by the sound of water being poured into a glass and lastly—the sound of Mason's car unlocking.
"Where the hell are they going..." Mika muttered under her breath. The second eldest returns with the glass of water and hands it to Andy. "Do you know where the girls ran off to?"
Renz shrugged her shoulders. "Dunno. I was watching TSITP Mika...when Conrad's on screen nothing else matters to me." She answered.
Mika hits the side of her thigh as she stands. "Don't say that..." Renz widens her eyes when she realises what she said and the situation unfolding in front of her. "Don't pay attention to her."
"Sorry." Renz apologised. The brunette sat against the arm of the leather couch to give Andy space as she tried to focus much of her attention onto the 3-3-3 rule. "Is she okay?"
Mika nods. "She will be. I need you to find out where Riley and Mason ran off too. I'm gonna grab a jacket then drop Andy home."
Andy's eyes well with tears. She couldn't hold them back any longer. She had grown evidently tired of pretending that she didn't care.
I loved her first...
And yet she comes home to you.
Her heart broke into millions of pieces—like shattered pieces of plaster when a statue topples over from its place. She was weak and fragile.
She let her fate take over as her tears fell from her face and onto her lap. "My heart hurts." She cried. "I'm sorry, Mika..."
Mika furrowed her brows. "No, why are you apologising?" She takes Andy's face in her hands.
"I can't keep pretending that I'm not hurt. That I'm not jealous of Mason. That I'm happy for Riley. No one understands how painful it is...all I ever hear is Mason this and Mason that and—"
Her own words were like shards of glass against her skin. "I can't keep pretending that I'm not in love with Riley. I loved her first, Mika. But she took her. Mason took her from me and I—"
She could feel her heart physically break as it ached terribly. "I loved her first. Mika it's so unfair," She sobbed. "I was always there. She took her away...." Mika's heart ached at the sight of Andy slowly losing herself in front of her.
It didn't make the situation any better knowing that her own cousin had walked out with no awareness of the happenings around her.
Neither does Riley.
"It should've been me."
