_______________A new morning dawns upon the little house on the hill. Tiny specks of dust dance around the air in the shaft of the morning sun, seeping through the bay windows. Riley sits against the window sill, a copy of The Summer I Turned Pretty perched on her lap as she read quietly.
Mason watches her from the kitchen. There's bacon and eggs in a pan, four slices of white bread in the toaster, some sliced avocado, and two mugs set by the kettle for their morning coffee. "Baby, breakfast is nearly ready."
Riley inserts her bookmark between the pages and makes her way to the kitchen after setting the book down by the windowsill.
"I could've helped you, Maisie." Riley smiled.
Mason shook her head. It was officially their anniversary. "All I want you to do is sit and look pretty while I do everything," She grinned. "That's enough for me, my love." The younger presses a soft kiss on Riley's cheek as they stand side by side. "You can just set the table. That would be great if you could." She smiled.
Riley nodded and grabbed two plates and two sets of cutlery. She put them down on the table before making her way back to the kitchen to pour the water into their mugs.
"Be careful," Mason uttered. "Please."
Riley nods and pours gently, releasing a soft 'ah' as a tiny splat of water touches her skin. She sets the kettle down and Mason immediately rushes to her, eyes wide. "Are you hurt?"
The latter cups her cheeks and breathes heavily. There's worry behind her eyes as she scans Riley's hands—checking for burns. "I told you to be careful." Mason spoke. "Are you okay?"
Riley holds her palms in the air and shows Mason, turning them around slowly so she could see the back of her hands too, "I'm okay. The water just splattered in me a little. It didn't hurt. And I'm not hurt either. I'm okay I promise."
Mason pouts. "I really want you to be careful."
Riley pulls the girl close and nods. "And I'm being careful, baby. I'm fine. You don't have to worry about a think. C'mon, food is getting cold."
Mason takes Riley's hands in hers and expects them carefully. She would double, triple, and quadruple check if she really had to. "Mm," She hummed lightly. "There's no burns. You're ok."
Riley nods once more and smiles widely, finding her girlfriend adorable. "See, I told you. I'll just finish up with our coffee. Go take a seat."
Mason shakes her head. "No, I don't want to."
"Why not?" Riley wondered, her head tilted.
The latter brings Riley's hands to her lips and kisses them gently. "Just to make sure." She chuckled. The older girl blushes. "I'll go now."
Mason heads towards the table and takes a seat, waiting patiently for her girlfriend to join her before taking any food to put on her plate.
Riley joins soon after and places a mug in front of them both before taking a seat. They both exchange a warm smile before saying Grace and digging in to the breakfast that Mason had made.
