The room was dark and silent
the only sound coming from the branches, scraping back and forth, against the window.
Thunder roared in the background while lightning painted the walls; illuminating a lone sillhouette...
Hunched over the bed, the only movement could be found in the quivering of its shoulders.
In what flashes sparsely lit the room, it glinted off a pair of royal blue-almost violet- eyes that sparkled as their head turned toward the door, focused sharply on the sounds coming from the hallway.
Shadows from underneath showed something heading closer and closer. The room grew dark again and a swift and sudden movement was barely heard in the darkness.
One more flash and the previous body was now at the door, back against the wall. Complete silence followed, no single breath released while the door slowly creaked open.
"Why are You here?!"

{Flight 249 is now landing at your England destination. Please stay seated until the lights turn off to signal it is safe, then you may slowly begin to deboard the plane...}
With a start, I jumped up in my seat, awakened by the blare of the intercom perfectly positioned right above my head. I glared up at it grumpily before clicking off my belt.
"Come on, Lynli" My father grunted, pulling down the luggage out of the baggage compartment above. With a sigh, I shoved myself up and out of the seat, stretching out my arms and legs as best as I could in the cramped space.
First making sure i did not forget my iPod(I would die without music) I threw my diffel bag over my shoulder and finally got off the plane.
Trying to keep up with my dad once we had gotten off, I followed behind the bustle of the crowd before I was shoved feet behind him- no longer just an arm’s length away. With everyone rushing past me, I was nearly shoved too far by some man in an even greater hurry it seemed. Not. Stopping in the traffic, I searched amongst the shifting feet, looking for my bag that I had dropped in that man’s haste. Finally grabbing it off the floor, I looked up and, with much fright, realized just how far away I had gotten from my father. No longer able to see him the panic finally sank in and the claustrophobia struck. The lights seemed to dim and all those around me, brushing past me, touching me, grew taller by the second and all I could do was watch every move, flinch from every bypasser. No longer able to see past anyone, my senses began to shut down around me- I couldn’t even recognize my own hand. Spinning round and round like a madman, I almost didn't recognize a whisper above the roaring beat of my heart; my name.
Stumbling forward, I finally laid eyes on my rescuer. There was my mother, holding the 'Welcome Home' sign, my father standing next to her. Quickly gaining strength back in my legs as I realized just how silly I must had looked, I ran into her arms. The sign clattering to the ground. I realized just how long I'd been holding my breath. "Mom, I've missed you so much!"
After finding out the splendid news of her promotion, she was informed that she would have to relocate herself within 72 hours to England. Not enough to sell the house and pack up all of our possessions. So, I "unwillingly" opted to stay behind with dad, buying more time to spend, and say goodbye to Kaiden, my best friend.
It was a bit hard, we'd been inseparable for nearly 8 years, down to the very first day he rode into the neighborhood on the U-haul truck. He had been the only kid who would play with me. I always tried to make other friends, but no one else seemed to like me very much. I guess they felt the goose bumps too- when they looked at me. It had to have something with enough effect to hate me the way they obviously did. If they weren't ignoring me, they were showing just how much they didn't want me around...in more ways than one. It wasn’t too long after this when I started home schooling. That lessened the torment some, but they didn’t fully stop until Kaiden decided the best thing for me was a makeover. So I changed my appearance, I'm not sure if they even knew who I was after that.
Giving one last squeeze, I stepped back. "I've missed you too," she laughed. "Are you alright, honey..." Her eyebrows furrowed as she stared at my face...sometimes I get scared that they see it too. All I can wonder is, if so, how could they have mustered up the feeling to love me? “, you’re sweating.”
"I'm fine mom, really. It's just stuffy in here and I don't want to lug this coat and luggage around, so I'm waiting to take it off.” Eyeing me skeptically, my mom, Ava, turned around to help pick up the luggage the rest of the luggage from the conveyer belt.
My parents don't need to be burdened by my problems, especially something as silly as claustrophobia. I've already put enough on their shoulders. My presence in their lives brings them worry. They fear that something might take me away from them at any moment. That’s why I don’t want to show weakness, to confirm that they need more on their plate to worry over.
Putting on a smile so big that my eyes squinted, I followed their lead, never losing ground. "You two are going to absolutely love the new house. It's now big enough that you can even have your own private bathroom, Lynli. And, the neighbors are so nice. It's on this quaint subdivision where all the houses match! It's just adorable."
"Let me tell yeah, walking into the wrong house on my way home from school because I couldn't recognize my own house, that's the most adorable thing in the world." I joked. "And, I'm sure I'll love it." I added in. Even if it came out sarcastic at times I could never help it when I made comments like this; but they will always be jokes, I would never talk so negatively to my parents and actually mean it. Besides, it’s what we always do to one another; and she’s too happy to be negative towards even if I wanted too, I was too happy. "Well, if you're so worried then maybe the first class you should focus on is Geography."
"What was that you said, mom? I need a few geography lessons? I dont' think even the most skilled geographer could find the street within this maze of replica after replica after street after street!" I slumped down against the car, wondering how I would ever get out of here. "You aren't plotting on running off with your boss and stranding dad and I here so we could never get out of here to find you, did you?" I more whined than joked to her, wishing to get out of this dreadful car. After having been stuck on a plane for 10 hours, stuck in a car for another 2 wasn't any better; and especially since half of my limbs have been asleep since hour 2, it's so annoying!
"*fake gasps* How did you know?! Since you’ve figured out my plan, instead of letting you live here I'm just going to have to kill you." She mocked, pretending like the idea was nothing to fret.
Pulling up to the house, I made a bee line for the door. All of my interest to check out my new surrounding environment upon arrival was lost ages ago.
Zoning out, I was blind to everything around except for doors and one question "Which is mine?" A cherry oak door up the stairs first caught my attention, and when I opened the door I instantly took all claims. I don’t care if they can’t hear me think “it’s mine!”….it just is and I thought it first!
There was a window seat with hand-carved calla lilies adorning the wooden edges; a set of double door windows above it shown out to a soon-to-set sun. Tracing my fingers along the grooves in the frame, I surveyed my new view. I was surprised to see the sun shone through at all. With all the renovated houses, back to back I could hardly tell where all the other backyards ended and mine began. I didn’t stare out the window long before I noticed the first house sitting directly back to back with ours. I was thankful that the windows in my house had not been blocked by bars. It was also quite puzzling though, to look at the beautiful gardens and the landscape that surrounded the house just to look up and see those bars. They looked dreary…major mood-killer if you were actually enjoying the rest of the view.
I also felt sad though, like I just knew that behind those walls lies a caged soul.
