t was also quite puzzling though, to look at the beautiful gardens and the landscape that surrounded the house just to look up and see those bars. They looked dreary…major mood-killer if you were actually enjoying the rest of the view.

I also felt sad though, like I just knew that behind those walls lies a caged soul.

A far off movement attracted my eye and I found myself locked in the gaze of a pair of mysterious emerald eyes…they were curious…wondering.

It lasted only a moment, but to me it felt like a lifetime dragged itself out in a way.

It was Ava's voice calling to me that broke the lock. When I looked back, the curtains were drawn and eyes out of sight.

Shaking it out of my mind, I spun on my toes, eyeing my new, already made bed. The down comforter and fleece sheets called out to me.

Slowly walking over, I started to crouch as I reached it, crawling on top. Lowering myself onto the covers, I kicked off my flats and buried my head into the pillow, pulling the covers around my body.

"Do you want to see the rest of the house Lynli? You still haven't seen your bathroom yet?" My mother tried to rouse me, not wanting to wait another few hours to spend time with me after having to wait 5 weeks.

"Mmmmhmmmm..." I mumbled almostinaudibly, sleep already taking over. "You...go ahead," lazily waving a hand towards her to go on, "I..I'll be...right....behind you." The last came out as a whisper between huge yawns, no longer able to hold onto consciousness.

Coming up behind her, my father put his hand on my mother's shoulder. "Come on, she's had a rough time sleeping, getting ready for the move and all. Let her get some rest." Gliding his hand down to hers, he gave it a squeeze before turning and walking out together.

"Where is He?" they hissed, royally burning with rage that the one behind the door hadn't been the one they had been waiting for...

The one they ached and pained for...

"I-I...I'm sorry, my fau...fault...I didn't kno-" "

I said where is he you little cretin!" the person yelled at the unwelcome visitor, who began to cower and shake with fear.

“We-well...there seems-"

"Stutter one more time and I will tear that useless tongue of yours out where you stand, now get on with it imbecile!"

The figure yelped, standing straight and wide-eyed, covering his mouth uselessly. "No, my Lady...no more stuttering...there seems to be..." he paused very long, afraid to stutter, "a problem...it seems the boy was taken for granted..."

Outside the sky slowly turned dark and the neighborhood was settling in. The shades of magenta and gold that colored the soon night sky poured into the room.

A hoot could be heard from a distance...near distance...yards...feet away. An owl hooted once more, waking me out of my sleep.

Jumping where I lay, I lazily looked over the side of my shoulder for the source. The impression of the sheets were matted to the side of my face.

The sight of the pearly white owl perched upon my window sill had woke me up completely, though.

Cautiously I tiptoed to its side, slowly and steadily sitting down on the window seat next to it. Trying not to make a prompt, sudden move I looked out the window, searching for where it could have came from. Another hoot brought my widened eyes back to the bird who looked at me in... was that wonder I could see in its eyes? Impossible- I must have been imagining it due to the odd chance that an owl would decide to fly into MY window. That's not exactly something you see every day.

Hand outstretched, I reached out to the bird tentatively –

"Hedwig!"

In the blink of an eye, the owl had flown back out the window, but not before letting out one last hoot.

Startled, I nearly fell off the seat. Holding onto the sill, I peered outside, curious to see who owned such a mysterious creature. I found the face of a boy no older than myself staring across in an unknown curiosity It was the owner of the emerald eyes.

Hoping for a fresh start here, I gave him the warmest smile I could muster and waved at him from across the lawn.

He waved back at me, obviously hesitant at first, but the same welcome did not reach his face. It just filled with anger before he turned his back on me and went back inside, closing the curtains behind him.

That was it, the only sign I needed to know that no one would ever like me; no one except Kaiden that is. He was the only one and would be the only one to accept me...and now he was a thousand miles away with an ocean in between us.
