Recap:

“Lynli, I’m sorry.” Harry said, taking a step back.

“Wha-Why?” I asked, hoping he wasn’t about to leave me here.

“We’re gonna have to get someone else if we want to fix this and figure out what’s happening. Even if you made the potion to last longer, it shouldn’t do this.” Harry said worried and ran back in the direction of the potions classroom.

“How did this happen?” Headmistress McGonagall asked.

Malfoy and I both shot up in our seats next to each other and started yelling incessantly pointing at one another for blame.

Truth was neither of us had the slightest idea.

“Stop!” She yelled, raising a hand to silence us. She took off her glasses and rubbed her temple for a few seconds before replacing them.

“Professor Snape?” She inquired, looking to him for some input.

He sat at a small table to the side watching the liquid swirl in the vile her shook round and round- our vile.

He took a few more seconds and glanced at me with a sneer before looking to McGonagall.

Everyone in the room was well aware of the potion we had to make in class, but modification or not, it had been well over 5 hours. Classes were over and students were surely on their way back to their common rooms from dinner.

And in the course of 5 hours I’ve also managed to figure out that anytime we display strong emotions towards each other- say me wanting to stomp Malfoy’s head into smithereens- the tie linking us together gets stronger and forces us closer together.

So as long as I stay calm I can have my 2 yards.

But now the question was what happened to alter the potion?

“If my tests are correct, which they always are, there was triple the bubotuber pus and quadruple the doxy eggs than called for-“

“We didn’t use those ingredients until after I gave you the potions book!” I yelled, not waiting a second to put the official blame on Malfoy.

But he had my calculations…why would he change them?

“Ms. Stone! I am not finished.” Professor Snape took me from my thoughts, sounding quite aggravated.

“Oh...uh, sorry.” I got out, catching the look McGonagall was giving me.

“Not only were there excessive amounts of ingredients that are actually supposed to go into the Cuffling potion, but there was even trace amounts of wartcap power. Can you explain how an ingredient that isn’t even mentioned for 2 whole chapters before and after this potion became a factor in this screw up?” Snape asked, insisting on only staring me down.

“She got the ingredients!” Malfoy yelled, pointing his pale finger at me.

“Exactly, I got the ingredients. I also have a photogenic memory and recall for a fact that I didn’t even touch the wartcap powder!” I yelled back in defense.

“Well, Ms. Stone, if you’re memory is as you say it is then can you tell us how this happened.” Headmistress McGonagall said taking a seat behind her desk.

“I-“I stopped and thought about it…trying to recall what exactly did happen.

“I can only be thankful this happened to you Mr. Malfoy. I can’t imagine the predicament we’d be stuck in if I hadn’t confiscated it off Mr. Longbottom’s station.” Snape commented.
