Recap:

Scooping the kitten into my arms, I watched him curiously, yet I was mortified all the same. "How could you have done that? Why would you even think such a thing?"

“That’s because, like you, I'm a wizard Lynli. I'm not the only one out there either; which is why you don't have to be afraid. There's a whole society of us in the world; including goblins, ogres, and even giants! Almost anything you could think of exists and it's just absolutely wonderful!" he started rambling on joyously.

I didn't like the way this was going at all. Was I supposed to be bubbling with joy at the fact that he mocked me? So much talk for trust- turning my reality into a mockery of a fairytale. I couldn't sit here no more, couldn't listen.

Shooting up from where I kneeled, I held my hands to myself now, my back towards him. "You're mocking me, aren't you? Should I be surprised though, that this is the type of response I've earned for-for what I am?" I shot back.

"What do you mean? I'm telling you the God's to honest truth here Lynli!"

"Yeah, and according to God’s word I shouldn't exist! I'm an abomination sent to punish my parents!" Turning on him now, I continued, "if this supposed world of fairytale and mythical creatures exist-, if you really are a wizard like you claim to be- then show me!"

A step closer to him and blue flames consumed my fingers, outstretched between the two of us. Shifting my wrist from side to side, I stared him down, challenging him in a way. Fire crackling ever brighter, I snapped my hand shut, leaving no trace of its brief existence.

"It shouldn't be so hard to do if that's what you really are." My voice was full of the anger that I had let take over my body without a thought, but my eyes gave way to the pleading that was inside.

Struggling to find the words, he closed the gap between us, trying to lay a reassuring hand on my shoulder…unsure if he should. "I...I can't do that. It's just not in my power right now to do so, but I wish I could." he whispered, averting his eyes from mine, watching his hand.

"And I wonder why that is. You saw what I am, this isn't some joke you know."

"I know that! And I'm trying to tell you the truth!" he pleaded.

"The truth of ogres and fairies; I heard. If this fairytale is supposed to be true, then tell me, who is the evil villain in this world? Who's the damsel in distress and where's her hero?" I questioned vehemently, thinking of all typical fairytales I had ever heard or watched. That’s how they always ended; so if I’m to live one, then those people must play a part in mine too.

"If they can't be real then why do you exist at all?!"

Jerking my shoulder from his grip, all I could do was glare. "I guess I shouldn't, huh? Should I take care of that then, so that the world can go back to one happy normal place?” I hissed, stalking away from the swings, kitten in tow. I left him with one last look, which was still on my face. And it left him scared; not for him though...for me.

With that done, I continued on my way.

"Lord Voldermort!"

I froze, my heart skipping at those words. I wasn't sure where, but the name rang a bell strong and true inside of me. My left foot shifted back and across the sand. I turned to the side and gazed at him in wonder, all the pain and anger instantly gone.

"What did you say?" I whispered so lightly that I thought I couldn't even hear it myself; almost.

Taking this opportunity, he slowly advanced on me.

"The evil villain is Lord Voldermort; there is no damsel in distress-I hope there never is; and I'm the one who's supposed to stop him, the 'hero'," Reaching me, he held onto both of my shoulders to keep me from possibly lashing out again. "And, I can't show you what I am because it's forbidden."

"What do you mean, forbidden?" Calming down, I inquired hoping for him to continue.

"In the wizarding world, it's against the law for anyone under the age of 17 to perform magic outside Hogwarts, 'School of Witchcraft and Wizardry'. I was nearly expelled last year for using magic to save Dudley and myself." The last part he chuckled out at the look that came upon my face when he said Dudley's name. It was as if he was still so close that I could smell him even now.

"And there's no other way for you to show me?" I almost begged, afraid to believe and be deceived.

"Well, I think I have something I could show you, come on." Grabbing my hand, he had me follow him back through the streets until I came to mine. "It seems I'm not going to have time. Meet me out at the park, midnight. I'll show you there."

I couldn't figure out why he'd said that, but then I heard my name being called out in the distance.

"Although, I think you should probably wait a bit to go out there." he added, wiping the last tear remaining on my cheek. I realized just what he meant, my swollen, bloodshot eyes. How horrible I must have looked.

Looking up towards the sky with my head still facing ahead, I began rapidly blinking my eyes. I did this about 20 times before stopping, asking him how I looked.

"Perfect. Though I still can't figure out how in the world you can do magic without a wand." He said, pulling a long stick out of his back pocket. "Well, it seems I do have something on me that I could show you, though it's not like I can do much with it right now."

"Magic? Is that what you call this power?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah."

"Oh...Well, I better get going. I'll see you tonight." I confirmed before making my way to the source of my name.

"Oh, Lynli! Where have you been?! I was starting to get worried!" mom called out as I came into view.

"I was chasing this little devil."" I replied, scooping the kitten into my arms. "Do you know where it came from? It was hoboing out in the garage when I found him; went running for his poor life." I stated, holding up the kitten for her to see its cute face.

"Oh, no." she grieved, half glaring at the kitten, though she still smiled at its cuteness.

"What's the matter?" Turning the kitten to me, I checked its face, making sure it wasn't hurt or covered in dirt.

"Nothing, it's just this kitten here was supposed to be a surprise. A little 'welcome home' present I was saving for when we finished unpacking the last box. I found him just the other day, following me on my morning walk, and I knew he was just perfect for you...no use in surprise now, huh?" she sighed.

"I'm sorry mom, I didn't know. But thank you, I really do love him." I gave her a hug, squishing the kitten between the two of us. As it gave a little cry, I let go of her, laughing at the cuteness of it. "Thank you. I'm going to go take him up to my room now." Pausing, I decided to finish what I had originally come down to do, and set him down.

Heading back outside, I put the cans away before continuing back into the house.
