Sora's POV

[Chapter stuff. SKAB is locked in a cell with wolfbane blocking mindlinks]

Kaine: How the funk are we gonna get out of here?
Aaliyah: keep pacing like that and you'll make a hole through the floor

Blake: how are you not serious or freaking out about this?
Sora and Aaliyah: ARE YOU KIDDING ME
Aaliyah: did you see the one dude? Buddy looked like a chicken wing with noodle arms. THEY EVEN USED DARTS!! Only wimps use darts! They ain't even got the balls to do it themselves, they use DARTS! LIKE PUSSYS!!

[Later. Zale is alone and talking to them. No guards are around.]

"You don't want the title," Blake says. "Trust me, it's all paperwork and shit. It's not exactly paradise and abusing power."

Zale seems to consider this. He frowns thoughtfully before a frustrated look appears on his lips.

"If not that, then what?" he growls. "I'm not just going to let this whole thing go to waste. Years of work, of research, for nothing? I can't just let all of this—" he waves a hand around in a gesture to the building around us—"Be for nothing."

"Come back with us," Kaine says, his voice surprisingly pleading. "We could use someone smart like you; we're fucking stupid." A small smirk crosses Zale's lips at that and Kaine continues, "You don't look happy here, not happy like you were."

"So what?" Zale snaps, eyes turning cold. "My happiness was gone the second I was banished. What could going back ever give me? Hated looks and snide comments?"

"Maybe," Blake says slowly. I can tell he wants to play his words right. This could be huge, if Zale decides to stop this personal revenge thing he has going on. "But we can stop that. No matter how dangerous you've become, you're still the dork I grew up with, Zale. I can see through that mask you hide behind."

Kaine drolly raises a hand, "So can I."

Blake gives him a glare before turning back to Zale. "I still care about you," Blake whispers. He glances at Kaine, "We still care about you."

That seems to make Zale snap, rage sparking in his eyes. "Don't lie to me! You never did a thing when I was banished! You never came looking for me, never thought of me! You abandoned me!" He pauses, voice becoming a hurt whisper as he looks away, "You abandoned me..."

Blake and Kaine say nothing to that. They glance at each other and I can see they agree with Zale. They did nothing. They let their cousin go and they did nothing.

"They're trying to do something now though," I find myself saying. "Maybe it's not too late."

Zale looks up at that. His eyes scan over us all, lingering on Blake and Kaine. Slowly, I watch as his guard comes down and the cold glint in his eyes becomes a scared yet hopeful spark.

"You really think there's hope for me?" he whispers, stepping closer.

I wait for Blake to grab him and force him to release us or something but he doesn't. He doesn't do anything but watch as Zale slowly approaches the bars. The wolf in my nightmares stops merely a foot away from the bars yet Blake does nothing.

"There could be," the alpha whispers. "If you make the effort to change."

Zale's eyes search Blake's. Kaine moves closer to his brother and Zale's eyes turn to him as well.

Hesitantly, Zale reaches his hand through the bars, "For forever?"

I hear Kaine let out a small, happy laugh and he takes Zale's hand. "For forever, seashell."
