Rise Up - Andra Day

Constance's POV

I woke up to find Kaine's chest against my back, his arm over my abdomen. I could feel his breath on the back of my head.

It was still dark outside.

Can we go outside and shift? Cora asked. We haven't shifted in so long and I wanna go for a run.

Sure, I replied.

Quietly as possible, I tried to get out of Kaine's grip. It was sort of hard but eventually, I managed to escape his grasp without waking him.

I snuck downstairs and outside. I was immediately met with cold air.

I shifted and took off running, weaving between the trees.

After a while, Astrid's scent reached my nose.

I followed it to a clearing.

Astrid's Jaguar form was hard to see with her black fur but I could make out her body against the shadows of the forest.

She sat in the middle of the clearing, her head swiveling in every direction, probably making sure no one was trying to sneak up on her since she couldn't hear.

I started walking towards her, knowing my white fur would make me easier to spot.

Astrid gaze landed on me quickly.

What are you doing out here? I asked.

Couldn't sleep. And Ash wanted to shift, Astrid answered.

Same. Except I could sleep, Cora just needed to shift, I said.

I was gonna say, not being able to doesn't sound like you.

Her eyes widened slightly and she gave a small feline smile as she spotted something over my shoulder.

I turned to look and Aaliyah's arctic fox form collided into my side. Astrid leapt to the side as Aaliyah and I rolled on the ground towards the spot where she had been standing.

As we rolled across the clearing, someone else joined our little tussle.

Hey friends, Sora said in a weird voice.

The three of us continued to roll around, eventually coming to a stop on the wet grass.

I sat up and looked around, searching for Astrid. Damn her black fur, making it so hard to see her in this darkness.

Sora joined me in looking and so did Aaliyah.

None of us could find her. I followed her scent, wandering through the trees. I could sense my other sisters trailing after me.

After a while, I heard singing. It started as a soft hum at first then became lyrics.

We listened and started heading towards the voice.

Eventually, we came to the meadow where we first saw our mates.

Astrid was standing in human form, singing. She sounded just as good as she always has been, no changes in her voice.

I shifted back to my human form and went over to stand beside her. After a few seconds, I joined her in singing.

"And I'll rise up,
Rise like the day,
I'll rise up,
I'll rise unafraid,
I'll rise up,
And I'll do it a thousand time again.

And I'll rise up,
High like the waves,
I'll rise up,
In spite of the ache,
I'll rise up,
And I'll do it a thousand times again."

As soon as we finished, Sora's voice started, singing one of the three songs she could sing without sounding like a mole rat.
