Gaara sat atop the walls of Keikos room. The moonlight reflected off of the city and from where he was seated, he could only think of one view prettier than this.

Girl, you're the one I want ♪

Lately he found himself coming back to this place every day just to watch the sun set and the moon rise. Up until recently he never came here alone. He wondered what she was doing now. If she was safe, if she felt comfortable.

You're the one I need

He took a glimpse over to his side, where his friend would've sat next to him, but was faced with empty room. Disappointment swelled in his gut and he quickly faced away. All of the emotions he felt the past few days dissolved when he remembered the fond times he shared with Keiko at this spot. How she held his hand and told him not to be afraid, the way her eyes would light up whenever they met with the sandy scenery of the village, but those were the very memories that made him furious at himself. He lost one of the only people who cared- no, loved him. The guilt of not treasuring their time together was eating him alive.

I'm beggin' you, please ♪

His eyes scanned Sunagakure, from the roundish buildings to the clear roads. Almost every area of the city had a trace of Keiko in them. His eyes stopped at a particular playground, and a wave of nostalgia washed over him.

Flashback - 7 Years Ago

. . .

The shouts of angry teens filled his ears. He was crouched down, teddy bear held tight to his chest as he wished for them to just disappear. Why were they so mad at him for just watching them play? He didn't say or do anything, so why did they look at him with such hatred? Gaara felt tears well up in the corners of his eyes when their tones got harsher.

'Stop it.' he thought. 'Go away.'

One of them laughed. "Aww. Is the little freak crying?"

"He thinks he can just stare at us like that."

"Gross, right? He totally weirded me out!"

Can you come back to me? ♪

It was too much. His hands gripped the sides of his head in attempts to block the noise out but it was no use. Everything seemed to turn black around him, and he felt something inside of him build. He felt like it'd snap any moment now.

'Why do they hate me? Why.. What did I do to them?'

The recollection of what happened with Yashamaru a few nights ago suddenly hit him. Every single minute of that interaction played through his mind and he could once again feel the blood on his hands. At that thought he felt the last amount of self control slip away from him, but just as he was about to attack, a voice broke out from all the others. This one was much easier to hear. The noise drained out of his mind and the feeling that had been buiding up faded away. The only other thing he heard was the sound of sand scraping in front of him.
