Las Vegas was the most chaotic city I had been to: there were people of all sorts everywhere, neon lights brightening up the streets, music, fun, casinos and much more. It was really different from the reality I had gotten used to, and Kate seemed interested in anything her eyes would land on.

«Are you sure you wanna do this?» she asked me. «Because if you don't, we can just get married the normal way.»
«Nothing I do with you is normal anyways, so we might as well do this crazy thing.»
«Fine. I'm gonna book the venue, then we're gonna get ready and we'll see each other at the altar tonight at eight» she explained, playing with her hair. «Remember, we need something old, something blue, something borrowed and something new.»

She kissed me again, aware that we wouldn't have seen each other for the hours ahead of our ceremony, then walked away.

I already had my something borrowed and something old in my suitcase, so I just needed something blue and new. I looked at the little shops, and in the end decided to buy a gorgeous blue bracelet, which I immediately put around my waist.

Just a few moments before I headed in the hotel room, I realized that I hadn't bought a wedding ring for Kate, so I walked down the street again and bought her a beautiful, yet simple wedding ring.

When I finally came back to our room, I dressed up and did my hair and make-up. My old thing was a pair of combat boots I had owned since my teen years, and my something borrowed was a beautiful dress Cecily had given me since she couldn't wear it because of the pregnancy.

I looked at my reflection in the mirror, and I finally wrapped my head around the fact that I was just about to marry my girl. She was probably getting ready, too, and about to leave the hotel room to go to the small chapel. I thought about texting the girls about that crazy idea we had had, but preferred telling them in person. There was only one person I really wanted to tell everything to, so as soon as I started to walk down the street in my beautiful dress and my combat boots, I called my family.

«Hey Brian» I smiled on the phone.
«Aren't you supposed to be napping or working or... doing other things? Where are you?»
«In Vegas.»
«Why are you in Vegas?»

There was a moment of silence from the both of us, then I heard him gasp as he realized.

«You're not.»
«I am.»
«Who proposed to who?»
«We both did. At the same time.»
«You really are soulmates, aren't you? Are you sure about this? Isn't it a little bit... rushed?»
«We talked about it, and we think that it's the right choice for us. We love each other and we wanna seal the deal.»
«I'm kinda sad that I wasn't invited.»
«Sorry! We just had this idea, and even though it's crazy, we're going through with it.»

He congratulated me, then passed the phone to Tasha and to the kids, so that they could hear the good news from me. After they all excitedly wished me good luck, I reached the chapel and had to hang up.

There was a woman behind a desk, and when I told her my name she said that Kate was already inside waiting for me, and that there was an Elvis impersonator ready to walk me down the aisle.

I got beside him, and as he congratulated me, too, they opened the door and I got to see Kate in front of me. She was really beautiful, wearing a white shirt and black pants. I noticed that she was wearing her old sneakers, a new pair of earrings and had in her pocket a pair of Aidy's sunglasses that were stolen rather than borrowed.

«Hey, where's your something blue?»
«After this, I might show you» she winked at me, whispering, when I finally got to her.

I asked the Elvis impersonator if he could record the ceremony, then we got started.

The minister had us repeat the same phrases, as it was custom during a wedding, then we got to the vows.

«You can start, if you want» I reassured Kate. «I know that if you'll hear mine you'll start sobbing and won't be able to speak.»

She smiled at me and took a deep breath, reaching for the pocket.

«Brookie, I know how much you love me and you make me feel appreciated every moment of my life. I wanna make you feel the same way you make me, and make you feel special, something more, something incomparable. You are my person and you changed my life, and I could never live with the thought of not having me by side. I thank you deeply for this year and a half we have known each other, and for the life that you're agreeing to build with me. I love you, and I cannot wait for you to be my wife» she sobbed. «Also, I'm sorry about these vows but I'll make it up to you in the future.»

I kissed her hand and reassured her, with teary eyes, that I had really loved her vows.

«Kate, our relationship has always been a rollercoaster: you know what you're getting into, but you don't know how you're gonna be at the end of the ride. I have been more than joyous to sit next to you on that first rollercoaster, to hold your hand when you were scared and laugh with you through every moment of it. I have loved being your partner and your girl, and to help each other during the hardest times, holding each other up instead of giving up. It took some time, but we finally got to the end of that first ride. I couldn't have asked for a better finale, because I now realize that it was only the beginning of something more, of a new chapter, a new rollercoaster. I can't wait to start living my life with you, to make you smile and to make you laugh, even though sometimes I will make you upset. I am in love with you, only you: I love everything about you, from the way you giggle, to your beautiful dimple, to your kindness and your craziness. I would not wish for anything else but this. I love you so much, and I promise you that I'll try and make you feel good every day for the rest of my life.»

She was already crying, and as soon as I stopped talking, I began to.

«Have you brought each other rings?»

We nodded, and exchanged the ones we had bought a few hours before. She had bought for me a beautiful, thin gold wedding ring, with our initials engraved in it.

«It's really beautiful! How did you get it done in such a short time?»
«Someone was a really big fan of SNL.»

The minister ended the ceremony with the usual words, and we finally got to feel each other's lips once again.

«We're married now» I smiled, once we broke apart.
«Indeed, we are.»
«I love you.»
«I bet that I can love you more.»
