«Hello!» Cecily exclaimed, putting down a sign with my name handwritten on it.
«Hi» I smiled, hugging her. «I have missed you so much.»
«Me, too. There's so much I have to tell you!»

We walked to her car, chatting about the month we had been away, until a guy caught my attention.

«You do know that there's a strange outside waiting for us at the car, right?» I asked her, ironically.
«He's what I have been wanting to tell you!» she excitedly said, hugging me to the side. «His name's Jack, he's awesome.»
«He's handsome, I admit it.»

As we got closer, I finally was able to see the stranger up close. He was tall, he seemed really cute and smiley, but I could tell there was something more in his dark-brown eyes. I just felt like he had had a troubled past, just like Cecily, and maybe they had found something in common in that.

He had short, messy, brown hair, a freshly cut beard on his face, thanks to which he seemed a little bit older than his own age. He was a really beautiful man, and I hoped he cared about Cecily, which I found out was true as soon as we approached him.

«Hi» he smiled at me. «I'm Jack. Pleasure to meet you.»
«Hello, I'm Brooklyn. Pleasure's all mine.»

We shook hands, and he grabbed my suitcases and packed them in the trunk of the car.

«I'll drive.»

Cecily tossed the keys at him, which he grabbed with a sudden athletic jump, and we all got in the vehicle.

«So... did you see her?» I asked Cecily, trying to sound as casual as possible.
«Not gonna answer that. You need to forget about Kate.»
«Oh, you're Kate's ex?» Jack jumped in the conversation, receiving a small punch on the arm from Cecily.
«Babe!»
«I'm so sorry, I'm just trying to figure out your friends' group. It's kinda messy, to be honest.»
«It's alright, really. I'm not a child anymore, I can live without Kate, can't I?»
«I wonder if you'll be able to live with her, to be honest. Whatever.»

The couple exchanged weird looks, but didn't say anything.

«What?»
«Nothing, nothing. Aidy wanted us to go to hers, wanna come?»
«Yeah, why not» I shrugged my shoulders.
«Aren't you gonna ask me if Kate is gonna be there?»
«She's not, right?»

She knew that I knew that Kate wouldn't be there, my tone was clear.

«You have been looking her up, haven't you?» she exclaimed.
«I might have...»
«You really need to stop.»

I rolled my eyes and sank in the car seat.

«I hate you» I frowned.

Cecily and I walked to our friend's apartment, while Jack brought my things to our apartment. As we were walking, we chatted about her new boyfriend, since she had never mentioned him before.

«How did you meet?»

She told me about a random meeting at a party months before, then not speaking for a lot of time, and then meeting again at a café. She was talking really quickly, gesturing with her hands and with a never-ending smile.

«You seem really happy. Have you...?» I asked her, looking at her wrists.
«Not for two months. I am healing, I think.»

I gave her a side hug and squeezed her a little.

«I'm really proud of you.»
«What about you? Have you had any more panic attacks?»

I only nodded, and she didn't need to know anything else.
