«Goodnight!» I exclaimed to the girls, as they were entering the cabins. «See you tomorrow.»
They closed the door, while I stayed outside, enjoying the beautiful night.
«Mind if I join you?» Cecily asked, closing the door of our cabin behind her.
«Please, do.»
She grabbed a chair and quickly sat down, in complete silence.
«How are you doing? With Kate and coming back to New York?»
«I'm fine. But enough about me; how are things going with Jack?»
«He's wonderful, you have no idea. He really knows how to make me happy» she smiled.
Even though it was dark, and she sounded fine, there was something in her eyes that told me otherwise.
«You're not okay, though. What's the problem?» I found the courage to ask her, trying to sound as cool as possible.
«Nothing to worry about. It's not even Jack» she shook her head, playing it cool.
«Well, can I help in any way?»
«I- I don't know» she sighed. «You know what? I'll deal with this myself. I am a fucking woman in her thirties, damn it, I should take care of this.»
«Cec, you're really scaring me, but if you think you can do this, then so be it.»
«But I'll do it tomorrow night. Tomorrow at five we're wine tasting, and I don't wanna miss that.»
Wine tasting was really fun, especially when Melissa, Heidi and Kate tried to act like experts when in reality they didn't even know what kind of wine they were trying.
Aidy and I, after we made up, were really close, which made me happier than ever; Leslie hit on some dudes on the way back, and Cecily was really quiet during the whole thing, which was strange. I knew she had been waiting a long time to wine-taste, but she didn't look as happy as I would have thought.
«You alright?» I asked her, when we were in the van.
We were in the back, alone, so that I could talk to her privately.
«Yeah, I am. Tots.»
«You are pale, though. Did you eat at all today?»
«I did. It's just a little nausea, nothing more.»
In that moment, I didn't give her words much thought, but after a few minutes, as I was looking out the window, I realized what she was talking about.
«Cec. Are you pregnant?» I whispered, making sure no one could hear us.
«What!? No! That's crazy» she exclaimed.
She paused for a long time after that, but I kept staring at her.
«Well... I don't know yet.»
«What!?» I let out a little bit too loudly.
«Shh! Keep it down. While you were in the bathroom, I bought this» she whispered, showing me a pregnancy test. «I'm gonna do this later, but please keep it down until then.»
I reassured her, then we started listening to some songs that the girls were playing loudly in the front row.
The dinner went extremely well, if we don't consider the fact that I could see and hear Cecily's leg bouncing up and down under the table. I put my hand on her leg to stop her from being so nervous, but that didn't stop her. She was scared, and frankly so was I.
«Okay, so... who wants to go down at the lake?» Vanessa proposed, making a couple of girls raise their hands immediately.
«We'll stay here» I said for me and Cecily. «Maybe we'll stop by later.»
They didn't ask any further questions, and left without doubting anything.
«Are you ready?» I made sure, holding my friend's hand.
«Yeah, I think so. Imma go pee on this stick.»
