Neelkanth

For My Sundareshwar,
Love transcends,
Not just for a person,
But the entire Universe.

Thus when the ocean churns,
And the pot of poison comes out,
Everyone cries out in pain,
Every soul falls down.

Horror envelopes the earth,
The ocean turns dark,
Pleas of help, and prayers,
To save them from the mayhem.

Without any second thoughts,
He steps forward,
And takes the vial,
In His tender yet strong hands.

As everyone looks up,
In both horror and amazement,
He doesn't pause to look around,
Or take anyone's advice.

The poison He drinks,
Turning His neck blue,
His throat shines in the dim light,
And they hail Him calling Him "Neelkanth".

But my heart beats faster,
In anticipation and worry,
For what does a maiden know,
Except for love and care.

I keep my hand on His throat,
Out of reflex and my adoration,
In an attempt to stop the poison,
From doing further harm to what's already been.

Miraculously, the poisons ceases,
To spread in His body,
And His throat dazzles like a blue sapphire,
Permanently marking this tale in time.

He looks at me,
His moonlit face,
With a calm smile,
Showing His love and gratitude.

Shiva, the truth,
Shiva, the absolute,
Shiva, the beautiful,
Shiva, the lovable.

This is how my Mahadev is,
Simple and sacred,
Gets pleased by even a single bilva leaf,
And bestows His blessings to everyone.

He doesn't discriminate,
Between the good and the evil,
For Him, everything is nothing,
And nothing is everything.

This is why He is who He is,
The Lord of the Gods,
Mahadev, the Great Lord,
As He doesn't think about Himself before others.
