"Amelia," I blink. "I just don't think it would be fair if I didn't tell you the type of person Grayson is."
I purse my lip. I never thought I would be the one to do this but here I was. "I appreciate the concern but truthfully, I rather not hear what you have to say about Grayson. I wouldn't let him tell me what he thinks of you either because I want to form my own opinion."
He purses his lips and nods and the conversation on that subject closes.
We didn't say anything after that wasn't student council related. I had felt taken aback by his words and didn't want to visit what his thoughts were on Grayson or my new friendship with him. After yesterday, I decided I would give him the benefit of the doubt and not paint him in a bad light unless he gave me a strong reason to. Which, I had a strong feeling he wouldn't.
The first knock came and after that one, more followed. Soon, the living room was filled with people as Abacus brought out chips and dips. I could see he was avoiding me considering he would look and smile with everyone except me. I looked down feeling a bit guilty but I knew I had done the right thing.
"Abacus, what's with the cold shoulder?" Sienna says as she approaches him. Abacus scrunches his eyebrows. "At your new vice president," she points at me with a wide smile. "You should be introducing us all to her and not keeping her as your little secret."
Abacus places an arm around her, "Sienna. You have a way with words. I wasn't keeping her a secret nor giving her the cold shoulder." Lies, I think. He stands up and claps his hands. "Everyone, this is our new VP, Amelia Lockheart. I'm sure most of you know her."
One guy, in particular, stands out as he claps his hands. "Isn't she the girl who threw food on you?"
I can see Sienna glare at him as she stands up. She was wearing a simple white tee and a black ruffled skirt with black heels. Her hair was done in two braids. Compared to her, I wore a gray long sleeve and some pants, with sneakers. My hair was up in a messy bun with two strands on either side. She made everything look great while I looked plain. "No one was talking to you, Georgie." She pushes him slightly out of the way as she gives me a bright smile. "Amelia, why don't you tell us about you?" She turns to everyone, "This is my dear friend Amelia. I've worked countless times with her on charity events and I must say- no one else is better for this job." Back to me, "I'm glad you got it." I give her a small smile and stand up.
"Hi, I'm Amelia and I'm honored to be the vice president. Abacus has been so sweet and caught me up on a lot of activities we have going on, so I'm very eager for us to have a great senior year and I'll try my best to well- be the best VP we have had."
"What happened to Lindsy?" The same guy yells.
"She moved," Abacus says.
"Why did she move?"
"Family matters," he responds, "but we're not here to discuss Lindsy. So if you'll listen to me. I'll tell you, guys, what we have in store for the year." Everyone stopped and paid attention as my eyes scanned over to see Matt, typing away on his computer. I move from my seat and approach him.
"I didn't know you were part of the student council," I whisper. Abacus is talking about the football season, the carnival, the photo exhibit and how it will be delayed, the annual pool party, and the camping trip. I had already taken notes, so didn't bother paying much attention, but Matt diligently jotted them down with dates by them. I lean my head on my palm and look at Matt. "I'm assuming you're our stenographer." I narrow my eyes at him as he turns to look at me. He gives me a quick nod and I smile, leaving him be after that.
After Abacus finishes, the same guy from before goes to the front. "I think the most important question is, who's hosting the pool party this year?" Everyone cheers and hollers at his words. Abacus and Sienna smile as Sienna raises her hands.
"It's still some time away but I will of course. I'll supply the majority of drinks but if anyone wants to bring any. Feel free."
"Whooo," the chants sound out as everyone gets up. I look at Matt who gives me a smile and shakes his car keys in front of me with a shrug. I deleted the message from the unknown phone number that said, Miss me? And pretend it didn't exist.
"Are you offering me a ride home?" I say with a wide smile. He nods his head. I laugh, "I'd love one. Thank you." He nods his head and I link my arm with him, beaming him a bright smile. I liked Matt, it might be because he was the silent type and I felt that he never judged or it might just be because I felt like I could trust him with secrets he won't ever tell. With the secret that weighs on my heart constantly and could never say out loud. As we walked down the path to his car, which was an old brown station wagon, I wondered if he felt like he was carrying the weight of the world. Like me. We all had secrets we wanted to keep, I just wasn't ready for mine to come out.

I think this one is a short chapter, maybe a little lame. But, but, it did reveal some things. Like some upcoming events. Some possible unfolding drama.
