"If you guys are going to fight, just do it already," Sienna exasperated. "You guys always have this will they won't they. It's annoying. Especially when you never tell us the why. So if you guys are going to fight- just do it already or stop whining." They both retract and stay quiet. She huffs, "to think you guys could have been friends at one point if it wasn't for our families."
My eyes shifted to Sienna; the plot was thickening. I patiently wait to see if she elaborates and to my surprise, she does. "When we were younger we all used to hang out. I mean, how could we not when our families were these prestigious high-class millionaires? We became close in between the amount of lessons we had to take. You see, our families believed we had to be good at everything we possibly could be. We took dancing, singing, music, sports, you name it. Although, thanks to Grayson, we could sneak out from our classes and go to one of our pools to just hang out." As she told me, I could picture it and held a huge grin. I could see a younger version of the three of them, all getting along and being able to lean on each other. The type of friendship one craves but so few can achieve. "I know what you're wondering. What happened? The truth is, we grew up." She says it like this explains everything, and maybe it did. As she tells the story, the guys just stand to the side avoiding eye contact.
"When we were in middle school, that's when the rivalry really started but it carried over until our high school year. Especially when football was involved. It wasn't enough for their parents to be millionaires and have two great sons on the field. No, they had to be the best and the captain and quarterback." I was holding on to every word she spoke but their rivalry was becoming crystal clear. They could never be friends because of this unspoken rule of who would be the victor in the end, but it didn't explain why they were enemies. "Abacus's dad needed him to be the best so much that-"
"Sienna-" he warns and Grayson turns to him equally as lost as me.
"So much that-" she continues, "he trains him harder than anyone and is always making sure he stays on top. Grayson's dad, when he was alive," she sent a sorrowful glance his way. "Well- he was captain and quarterback back in the day and would always pressure Grayson on being the best. They both had rigid ways of training them and pressuring them, but boy- they were and are great at the game."
"So they are always competing with each other- well I knew that. I don't know why they always want to fight physically."
She shrugs, "I don't know that either. One day, Grayson was gone without any goodbye and Abacus never said anything. Then Grayson came back with this anger I had never seen, and that's all she wrote."
"If you're done with your little story, we should leave. The rain stopped," Grayson says and takes off running. Sienna had left so much to process but I didn't hesitate to leave either.
However, Sienna holds me back as the two boys run ahead of me. "Listen, I know you aren't trying to intentionally start a fight between the boys but," she starts but I stop her.
"They weren't fighting because of me," I told her.
She gives me a weak smile and pitiful eyes, "they kind of are Amelia. Anyway- I'm not trying to be mean but I came to tell you that I need you to stay away from Grayson."
"What?" I look at her dumbfounded by the nonsense she was spitting.
"Grayson belongs with me, even if he doesn't think he does at the moment."
"Sienna, Grayson is the furthest from my mind. There's nothing between us."
She gives me a flat smile, "I hope not because he is my boyfriend. You should stick with Abacus, you guys would be perfect for each other." She tightened his jacket on me. "Fit's perfect, like a glove."
