POV: Stan Marsh
It was early morning. Craig, Jimmy and I were always here early helping out. Jimmy was helping with feed while I mucked out. I have no idea what Craigs doing, but he's probably flipping off a crop or some dumb shit.
"Hey!" a faint voice yelled from inside the tack room. Jesus, who's here this early? "Yeah?" I called back. "Come here, baby!" Oh. It's Wendy. I place the pitchfork down and stormed to the tack room. "What?" I asked with a tone of annoyance in my voice. "I just got new tack and I'm too small and weak to carry it, I need someone big to help me!"
You've got to be shitting me."Uh, ok." I awkwardly squirmed around the saddle and ear bonnet.
I'm honestly so tired of Wendy. We break up and get back together..a lot and we've been dating since we were kids and I'm getting real sick of her. I don't get butterflies or throw up around her anymore. It was only temporary.
"Babe?" Wendy's voice interrupted my thoughts. "You just stepped in a pile of shit." "oh." I could care less, it happens when your at the stables all the time. "What do you mean.."oh"?! Clean up, please! Love you!" She placed a kiss on my cheek and flashed a quick smile before jogging to Zeekes stable. I place down her tack and rub the shit off my new boots. "whatever." I mumble under my breathe.
I went to go get Smiley for a quick trip around the field when I heard someone come in, probably the pony camp kids. Ughhhh. This early?? It's six thirty. I grabbed Smiley before any kids could take my bridle. A good old bareback ride in the field.
*Time skip to the field*
We started to walk way past the fences and to the river. I only trotted for a second because I was in a rush and forgot my bareback pad. Click click "Cmon, boy."
A canter had arose. I took my head phones out and music started to ring in my ears. I close my eyes and flowed with the music. Smiley started to slow down into a trot after something had interrupted our ride.I opened my eyes and took off my headphones off. "What do you want." Craig appeared out of no where on Shadow. "Newbie." He blankly said. "So?" I shook my head. "Experienced newbie. I know you like watching them." Oh! "Thanks Craig!" I spat out before cantering back, Shadow and Craig immediately passed me due to the Andalusians being one of the fastest breeds. A gust of wind blew past me when they past, which made Smiley go faster.
I like watching experienced riders because their most likely just 13 year olds who can go over a pole, and I know it's mean...but it's funny when they fly off trying to sit a big jump. "Wowww." I slowly pulled on the reins and Smiley stopped immediately. "Good boy."
I walked to the washing system where the pony camp kids where.
"Can we help you by any chance?" One of the older pony camp children tapped me on the shoulder. "Uhm, in fact...yes!" I hesitated as I thought of the benefits. "Really? Thanks!" I smiled at them and handed them smiley as they haltered him and tied him to a log.I ran to where the newbie had been coming in from. "Jesus christ. He has a horse?" I thought out loud as he walked in leading a horse.
"Alright, go ahead and tack her up so we can see your jumpin!" Hailey, the trainer, yelled.
A boy about my age lead the horse to the stables. I couldn't stop staring. He had black riding pants on with a white tank top. It was so hot out, so I couldn't blame him. And his hair was all fluffy lookin, I'm surprised a horse hasn't mistaken his hair for food yet. He did look scarily experienced. I'm excited.
He came back out after a few and lead his palomino to the big ring. He hopped on and started walking. "Do I just go for it or do I warm up?" He yelled from the ring.
"Just go for it!" Hailey yelled back.
"Oh, ok." He replied hesitantly. He started to canter almost immediately and jumped the first cross rail, wasn't too bad. He started to get to the rainbow oxer jump and two pointer perfectly. I started to feel a deep gut feeling. A newbie, better than me? Whatever. I scoffed as he continued to jump. I went to go check on Smiley. "There ya go! We picked his feet for you too." The older girl said handing me Smiley. "Thanks guys." I replied and pet Smileys neck.
I continued to watch the newbie from a distance.
Jealousy.
That's what I had felt. He was so good, but I couldn't bring myself to hate him. Maybe it's because I wanted to ask him for advice or because I needed to become friends with him to continue being the best at the stables. I moved closer to get a better view leading Smiley with me. He grazed as I stared in amazement.
"Up ahead, a vertical." I heard the newbie slur to his horse. I leaned against the fence in amazement as the horse turned perfectly and just as he was about to approach the jump, he turned. He turned to look at me. The palomino knocked a pole as he got distracted. He started to panic.
"Alright! Slow it down!" Hailey yelled.
He slowed down almost immediately and looked down ashamed. It was just one pole though. It's not like he he fell off. He immediately started apologizing.
"I'm so sorry, I got distracted. I promise it won't happen again! Please forgive me!" He begged. My jaw dropped. It was a pole! He must've came from a shitty barn because he looked as if he was about to cry.
"It's ok, hun. Just take a break and settle in. Jimmy will show you around." Hailey pet his horse as jimmy raised his crutch.
ok, idk if i did good on my first chapter but pls tell me if anything's wrong, please and thank you ANDDDD i love Wendy but in Wattpad she's always a bitch so I kinda just went along with that and I apologize in advance.
