 Eadlyn pov:

I walked into the office for the first time since Ekkio and I announced our engagement. Daddy was sitting with his back to the door and coffee in hand looking out the window. I walked over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. I took a seat at my own desk and started sipping some coffee.

Daddy turned around and smiled at me, "Good morning, Eady. We have a light day ahead of us."

"Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, your mother slept through the night for the first time since surgery."

"Good."

The windows were open so around midday we heard Mom walk past with Miss Marlee and Miss Lucy. They must have sat on a bench near the window, because we heard them for nearly an hour. Dad seemed to be enjoying listening to mom chat, because he just sat there with a smile the whole time. Every now and then he would glance down at one of their framed portraits.

Everything was going well until they got ready to come back inside the castle and Miss Marlee said mom's name a little loud and with a little too much concern. Dad dropped his glass of water on the floor and stared blankly ahead. Dad's hand started trembling and he started hyperventilating. He started calling mom's name and looking for her. It looked like he was searching for her in his mind. His eyes were unfocused.

"Daddy?" The word came out as a tremble. "Daddy?" I was getting louder, but I was terrified. Then it hit me, General Ledger was right down the hall.

I got up to get the General when Daddy screamed for mom. It sounded almost as if the need for mom was coming straight from the depths of his soul. It stopped me in my tracks and caused me to sit back down. The General burst through the door just seconds later. He looked at me and ran to my father.

The General was attempting to steady my father's chair and stop him from rocking back and forth. "Where is your mother?"

I just stared back at him, unable to answer him.

"For the love of God, Eadlyn, where is your mother?"

"She was um outside with Miss Lucy and Marlee."

General Ledger spoke loudly into a microphone I presume and called for the Queen to be brought to the king's office. He looked back at my father and started trying to calm him down, but my father's screams of anguish grew worse.

Finally my mother came through the door and immediately rushed to my father. "How long has he been like this?"

"A few minutes at the most."

Miss Marlee and Lucy came in and grabbed me and General Ledger. We all stood in the door watching.

"Maxon, I need you to come back to me." Mom picked up dad;s hand and put it on her chest. "Maxon I'm fine, but you need to calm down. Maxon look at me. I am okay. I came back. I'm right here."

Dad's head popped up and his eyes came into focus. He grabbed mom by the waist and pulled her into his lap. He didn't kiss her or talk, he just buried his head in her hair. Mom would whisper to him some, but for the most part he just sat there.

General Ledger looked at Miss Lucy. "That might have been the worst one yet."

"America was telling us how he wakes up in cold sweats and just grabs her hand. Wasn't she Lucy?"

"Yeah. Eadlyn, are you okay?"

"Yeah. It was really scary in there."

"Trust us we know what it can be like. The trembling always gets to me. Just watching him tremble in fear," General Ledger shook his head and looked at me. "Eady, are you okay? We all understand how it feels when you see him like, like that."

"I have to admit that it scared me when he just dropped his cup like that. It was almost as if he left our world and joined another."

Miss Marlee rubbed my back and smiled down at me. "I remember the first time I ever saw him like that. I had come to his study to look at birthday gifts for America. We were having a wonderful time, but something seemed off and when a guard burst through the door Maxon just dropped everything and lost it. Aspen, do you remember that, because America was sick and she stumbled onto the scene from their room and she knew exactly what to do and how to calm him down."

"Oh yeah, because America was coming in there to tell us to be quiet."

"How often does this happen?" The thought of this happening to my father regularly sickened me.

General Ledger looked at me and then at his wife and Aunt Marlee. He seemed to be battling with himself if he should tell me or not. I ultimately stayed silent and loyal to my parents. As I was about to beg him to tell me Ekkio came up the hallway and looked at all of us. I waved him over and he cautiously joined the group.

"What are you all doing out here?"

I just simply pointed to my dad in his office and mouthed later. He shook his head and grabbed my hand. I squeezed his hand and looked at him grateful for his support.

Daddy's chair creaked from inside the office and I looked inside. He and mom slowly stood and made their way toward the door. I could tell that mom had been crying, but dad just looked like he had been ripped to shrewd from the inside out. General Ledger and Miss Lucy moved over so they could stand in the doorway. Mom smiled as dad stood behind with a hand around her waist. I felt Ekkio tense up at the site of Daddy.

Daddy looked at me with tears in his eyes, "I am so sorry that you had to experience and see that Eady. I promised myself a long time ago that my children would never see me like that and I broke that promise today and I am sorry."

Mom took Dad's hand and squeezed it. "Eady, your father is going to work from the women's room today. Could you hold down the fort and send anybody to the women's room."

"Yes ma'am."

"Alrighty. We will see you all at Diner. Lucy, Marlee, are you ready?"

They both nodded their heads and started following mom. "Maxon, I expect you to be in the Women's room within ten minutes." Mom smiled at walked down the hall whispering with her friends.
