The two weeks that we had to wait until we could bring James home, were the longest two weeks of my life. When the band was not practicing, Levi and I were at the hospital, sitting at James' side.
Finally, it was the day that we got to pick out little son up from the hospital. I quickly got ready and dragged Levi out of bed. He grumbled but soon switched into a happier mood once he realized that today was the day.
When we got to the hospital, I could not contain my excitement. We arrived at the natal unit and were greeted by the nurse that we had spoken to and had become quite close to. "Hello" she greeted with the smile that seemed to be permanently stamped on her face.
She handed us James and gave us each a hug, before walking with us to the car. She said goodbye to James and wished us the best of luck on our first night with him.
Levi carefully drove home and it put a smile on my face to see him being so careful. We arrived at the parking lot outside the building and saw the rather unsurprised faces of our neighbors as we got James out of the car. "Judgmental pricks," I heard Levi mutter as we walked to our apartment.
I did my best to hold back a laugh and succeeded until we entered the apartment.
"What is so funny?"
"Judgmental pricks." I said before bursting out laughing, harder than I was previously. We shared a laugh, before James started crying.
Levi quickly handed him to me, "here you take him." he said with panic in his eyes.
I held James in my arms and quickly went into the kitchen to make him a bottle. Levi hovered over my shoulder, watching everything that I was doing.
"How do you know what to do?" he asked as he watched me prepare the bottle.
"The directions," I said as I rolled my eyes.
Levi looked at me and then quickly typed a note into his phone.
"Seriously?" I asked as I shook the bottle.
"I want to make sure that when you are not around and it is just me and James that I know what to do." he muttered to himself, before locking his phone and putting it in his back pocket.
I held James carefully once the bottle was prepared and fed him. Levi stayed by my side and I am not sure, but I am pretty sure that he was taking mental notes of everything that I was doing. Once James was finished with the bottle, I gently burped him and handed him to Levi.
Levi held James in his arms as if he were afraid that any movement may break him. I giggled and got out my phone, snapping a picture of the two of them. I posted it to twitter with the caption; "My two favorite men." The tweet was quick to spread and before I knew it, it had more retweets and favorites than any other tweet I had ever tweeted. My timeline was quickly filled with people commenting on how cute Levi was hold James and how adorable James was. As to be suspected, there were a few tweets that criticized Levi and I for having James at our age and situation. Sure we were not married, but we loved each other and are going to marry each other as soon as everything with James calms down a bit.
Levi's eyes met mine and we both looked at James to see him fast asleep. "Are you ready for a nap?" Levi asked.
I nodded and followed Levi up to the nursery. He carefully placed James into his cot and turned on the baby monitor. He grabbed my hand and pulled me into our bed. I soon fell asleep with my head resting on Levi's chest. I felt him stroking my hair as I fell asleep and heard him whisper, "I love you Harley, forever and always."
My nap was soon interrupted by the sounds of James crying. I went to get up, but Levi shook his head no and got up himself. "I will take care of him," he said before kissing my forehead and pulling the blankets back over me.
I laid in the bed, unable to sleep as James' cries became louder and louder. Soon Levi cam into the room, holding a very fussy James. "He won't stop crying! Harley he won't stop crying! What is wrong?" he asked sounding rather frustrated and scared.
I got up out of the nice warm bed and took my son in my arms. I carried him back to the nursery and found a clean dipper and the other supplies that I needed. I quickly changed him and handed him to a rather surprised Levi.
"How did you know?" Levi asked sounding amazed.
"Levi he just got fed. He is also a baby, he eats, sleeps, and poops."
Levi looked at me and we bother burst out laughing at the last statement that I had said.
Levi went and sat down on the rocking chair and held James snugly in his arms. He rocked him slowly and cooed to him. I smiled at them and leaned in the doorway. Levi was a great dad, sure he had no idea what he was doing, but it was clear the James absolutely adored him. The smile on my face soon grew as I heard Levi start singing to him. It was very rare to hear Levi sing, he claimed that he had a terrible voice, but I would have to argue. I could listen to him sing all day. Soon James was asleep again, but this time Levi kept him in his arms.
"He is so perfect." Levi said, mainly to himself.
"So is his daddy." I said smiling at him.
"I thought you went back to bed?"
"I was, but then you started singing and I decided to stay."
"You were always a sucker for my singing."
"You know it," I said with a wink, before walking out of the nursery and back to our room and waited for Levi to join me.
