"Evelyn, are you sure you want to leave so soon?" nana asked as I finished packing my bags

It had been a week since Luke and I fell out, we haven't spoken to each other once. Landon hasn't been over either. I didn't expect Luke to act this childish but lately he's been proving me wrong. I had planned going home for the weekend to celebrate my dads birthday but it looks like I'll be staying longer...

My boss allowed me to work remotely as I said it was a family issue. Extending my trip was unexpected but it would give me a chance to think. Nana has been worried as she's noticed the energy drain from me

"Nana I just need... a break" I whispered sitting on the bed

She sat beside me and held my hand, "I know Luke is an idiot and I'm not going to excuse his poor behavior but you both can't run away from this"

Nobody knows about our argument expect nana and I wanted to keep it that way as word spread fast around here. I still was processing Luke and Savannah and the lack of respect he had for me or our relationship

"I'll be back in the next week" I expressed

I just wanted a hug from my dad after this whole indecent. It's been a week and not once has he called... maybe Luke didn't care about me. My head was spinning as this was a lot to take in. It hurts worse knowing we were so intimate with each other and I really loved him

"Okay, well Amber should be pulling up to take you to the airport" nana whispered before leaving the room

I didn't want to leave my nana and family as its been the best time of my life but with Luke and Savannah's drama that is something I can't be part of. They need to fix whatever it is they have before getting in a relationship with others

I feel I've spent majority of time stuck in the middle of their drama. From babysitting Landon most times to taking insults from Savannah it wasn't healthy or fair to me. I know I'll miss it especially Landon but this was something I needed to do for myself

Closing my suitcase, I carried everything downstairs and checked my phone. My mother was more than excited for my return... she probably thinks I'm moving back home but that is not the plan. She had been texting all morning since I told her about this mini break home, she thinks I've gotten homesick and miss the city. Only nana and Amber know about Luke and I would like it to stay that way

Reading her text, I sent a short reply and stuffed it in my pockets. Before I could go to the living room the doorbell suddenly rang and I was confused as Amber would have called if she was here. I opened the door and and quickly shut it seeing who it was

"Evelyn!" I heard my name shouted from behind the door

I wasn't in the mood to talk to them right now... this was supposed to be a quiet getaway. Nana came into the foyer, "why are you slamming my doors?" she asked as I walked away

I didn't mean to be rude but I wasn't ready to deal with anyone close to Luke. Sitting on the couch I watched George walk inside with bags, Amber followed behind with a sorry look as she knew she was wrong for this

"Ignore her... Amber come help me put these bags up before y'all leave" Nana said walking past me

George gave the bags to them and slowly walked over to me. I could tell he had no idea what to say as I slammed the door in his face and hate his lying best friend

"You're really leaving?" he asked looking at my bags

"Yep" I said not giving him eye contact and looking at my phone

I know George didn't do anything to me but just seeing him wasn't helpful. He reminded me of Luke and I wanted peace... away from anything and everyone that makes me think of him

"does... he know?" he quietly asked thinking over his words

I set my phone down and gave George a glare... what was he trying to learn right now? Luke cheated and I'm running home because I can't face the reality of his actions and feel like my heart has been stabbed multiple times

"Why would he need to know?" I snapped not enjoying this small talk he was trying to enforce

George threw his hands up in defense, "woah... listen Evelyn I'm totally on your side with this" he expressed

"Luke is my best friend but even I know where to draw the line and what he did wasn't cool" he said giving me a sad

Part of me relaxed listening to George's confession... I assumed Luke told him what happened as we haven't spoken all week. So far everyone has been telling me how wrong he was and that I don't deserve this and that but it doesn't change the fact that he played me like an idiot

"Well... thanks George, I'll be okay" I mumbled

Amber walked in the living room and grabbed the keys from George, I stood up and walked to the door. We were finally leaving and I was ready to get on the plane. We grabbed my bags and gave nana a hug, though this wasn't goodbye I was going to miss waking up to her breakfast every morning

"You be safe" she whispered in my ear before we broke the hug

We walked outside towards the car and packed everything. I was going to miss this house and quiet sound of nature outside. Luke still hadn't called or checked on me... It hurt but I had to let him go. I know the town will talk soon when they realize the new arm candy isn't around anymore but I couldn't let that cloud my judgement

Getting in the car, George began to drive away from my grandmothers house as we headed towards the airport. Looking out the window it reminded me of the first night I came... how excited I was. Now I'm leaving with a broken heart and conflicted judgement

Life is funny... you can meet a person and build something, all for it to break within a week. Shaking my head, I let out a breath changing my mindset. This break was going to help me and spending time with my parents and friends, will help...
