A Strange New World (RWBY x Male Reader)

Mountain Glenn

Mountain Glenn was a defunct city dwelling comprised of destroyed and dilapidated buildings and was as Doctor Oobleck stated was one of Vale's greatures failures when he filled in team RWBY and Y/N on it's history. Y/N was about to ask him if he could tell them more about it, wanting to learn more about this place as Yang cut him off before he could voice his question to Oobleck, only confirming what Oobleck just said to them as it was a apparently that it was meant to be an expansion for the city, but it was overrun by Grimm.

The h/c haired young man looked out of the window of the bullhead as it neared it's destination, allowing himself to take a better look at the abandoned looking city that he was about to step into with his roommates and one of his teachers from Beacon. Just like he expected from everything he just heard from Oobleck and Yang, this city was in ruins and Grimm overtook it. Y/N bit his bottom lip at this view, having been reminded of a certain abandoned location from his world by it.

He shifted his attention back to Oobleck as he told him and team RWBY to get ready, telling them how they were going to land soon. All five of them nodded at him, starting their preparation by pulling out their weapons. The bullhead came in over a spot of street amidst the ruined buildings and structures of the ruined area. It hovered right above the ground as Oobleck, Y/N, Yang, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby all jump out of the craft, with the former five keeping their weapons drawn. Oobleck continued to hold his coffee canister as the bullshead flew away, leaving them alone Mountain Glenn.

"...Ladies and gentleman!" Oobleck declared a few seconds later, causing Y/N, Yang, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby to shift their attention to him, "You still may be students, but as of this moment, your first mission as Huntresses and a Huntsman has begun! From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say! Do you understand?" Y/N, Yang, Blake and Weiss nodded at him as Oobleck shifted his gaze to Ruby who unlike the rest of them still had her luggage in the form of a backpack, "Ruby! Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all of your bags back at school."

"But, uh, you hadn't told us to listen to you yet. So I didn't." Ruby replied as Blake, Yang and Weiss exchanged unamused glances with each other. Y/N shook his head, cracking a slight smile at Ruby's answer. He had to agree with Oobleck's question, though as he was wondering what Ruby was keeping in her backpack since they left Beacon.

"She's not wrong..." Oobleck muttered to himself, seeing a point in Ruby's reply as he put his hand on his chin, "Very well, Ruby, leave your bag here, we can pick it up upon our return."

Ruby pointed her finger upwards, struggling to come up with an answer, "But I, well uh..."

"Young lady, what in the world could you possibly have in that bag that could be so important to bring it with..." Oobleck's words died in his throat as he received the answer to his question in the form of Zwei popping out from Ruby's backpack. Everyone immediately looked at the uninvited guest.

"At least we now know why she stayed in our dorm for a bit longer after we left for the hall." Y/N whispered to Yang and Yang nodded in agreement as Blake and Weiss silently stared at Zwei. Oobleck took one step towards Ruby and Zwei as Ruby looked over her shoulder at Zwei with a sheepish look on her face.

"Get back in the bag." She whispered to the small dog as Zwei barked once in reply.

Oobleck looked down at Ruby with a serious look on his face, "We're here to investigate an abandoned urban jungle teeming with death and hostility, and you brought... a dog?"

Ruby took one step backwards, once again struggling to come up with the answer as she was certain she was in trouble from Oobleck's tone, "I, uh..."

"Genius!" Oobleck exclaimed, backing away from Ruby as Ruby looked at her teammates and Y/N and gave them a confused shrug, looking equally as suprised by his reaction as they were. Oobleck speeded past Ruby and snatched Zwei away from her, causing her to tumble to the ground. Y/N quickly helped Ruby up as Oobleck spined Zwei around in the air, "Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound, making them excellent companions for a hunt such as ours!"
