It's been a long two weeks and Fatima has been by Aisha bed side, talking and singing to her. This particular song her and Aisha always would sing together
Fatima: Sis I was driving down to road the other day and our song came on the radio. You remember the one we would sing together. I mean we changed some lyrics up a lil and made our own version, but it was ours. And you remember my favorite part was.
I'm here for you and you're here for me
That's how a sister supposed to be
Come day or night storm some rain or shine We'll stay side by side for the rest of my lifeLet's make a vow that we'll keep this together You are my sister no matter what, when, or whatever. A friend in need is a friend indeed My sister, my sister you can always count on me
With each other we can win
We will always be best friends
And it's you that I can rely on to let me know With you by my side and God as our guide You don't have to worry nah,
'Cause you are my sisterFatima: That was my favorite part, because it's true. You're not only my sister, you're my best friend, you're my twin, you're my first daughter.
By her surprise, the nurse walked in the door and was standing there listening.
Fatima: Oh, I'm sorry.
Nurse: No, don't be. I'm nurse Brown and I will be her nurse.
Fatima: Okay.
Nurse Brown: You have a beautiful voice.
Fatima: Thank you. I love singing, it's probably something that I would be doing if I didn't choose law as my profession.
Nurse Brown: What kind of law?
Fatima: I'm a lawyer.
Nurse Brown: Okay then. Do you like it?
Fatima: I mean it has it moments just like anything else, but I love what I do. It was always my dream to become a lawyer. Now I have my own firm which I happen to share with my best friend who's also my sister.
Nurse Brown: That's amazing.
Fatima: We're just two black women trying to make a difference.
Nurse Brown: And we need plenty more women like yourself, doing it the right way.
Fatima: The world needs more people who's making changes in general. Rather it's a lawyer, police, doctor, nurse, etc. We are the community so it starts with us. And only we can make that change.
Nurse Brown: You're definitely right about that.
Fatima: So how is she?
Nurse Brown: She's making progress, and she's getting stronger day by day. Her body went through a lot, so it has to naturally heal on its own. But she's making progress, so that's all that matters.
Fatima: Aisha was the first person who taught me how to be a mother. It wasn't my mom, it was Aisha. When my mom would be on the road with our dad. They would leave my brother and I with Aisha and our younger brother. And she and I sure a bond that I can't even explain.
