Chapter 15: During Break.

Julian's POV-

It was now Christmas break and so school was out for the next two weeks meaning I had the entire place to myself, well mostly since Joshua was still around to watch me which had also meant some more time to get to know him a little bit better at least. Aside from his telling about how he got to where he was and his family, there was still some things I didn't quite figure out on him. The only other things that I know were how despite knowing of the supernatural he still puts his faith in his religion, being very much devoted to his beliefs which I admired. Another thing was even with the bandages and burned injuries, Joshua was apparently still in good enough condition to still get into a fight.

I know this first hand since for the first few days of the break I had several sparring lessons with Joshua one on one of which I pretty much had underestimated how skilled he was at combat considering his burns. He may not look like it but the man could definitely throw a hard punch for a burned man and not even injure himself in the process. Even including the numerous times where I thought I had almost beated him in the match I would end up immediately going into a submission or a headlock. Safe to say that I had became more wary of whatever he would perform as an attack. 

But besides the sparring and training I was also working on some personal things which were consisting of communicating with my friends over break and even having some phone calls with Selina as well though they were mostly about the school work and such. Even then it was nice to make some conversations with them with what I have been doing along with the days off from school being a good ease for me not to overwork my brain too much. And so far the other work I've been working on were knowing more about other supernatural beings which I wrote down in my notebook, their backgrounds, abilities, and weaknesses just to be safe.

There was also a bit of thinking ahead for what else I have been working on, which were performance enhancers that I created with some help with tools in the science classroom and coincidentally enough they had the same green glow like the substance I had consumed in my dream. The first time I tried it there wasn't much of difference to my physical appearance though an increase in strength which I found beneficial. So making at least several of them I had kept them in my backpack just to be sure of where they were at all times but also in case of any sudden attacks if I were to go out from the school.

Along with said performance enhancers that I had made I took a bit of another step further with making some gear as well. Secret gear to be more exact since neither my friends or even Joshua now about it since I kinda wanted to make it a bit of surprise after all since if I was to train for recruitment into The Order and be able to defend myself, should I not also have some equipment of my own for added protection. It wasn't much after all mainly some gear that most people would wear at airsoft or paintball places though I did modify to fit my body type and accommodate the functionality of it so I could also be able to move around quick without feeling the weight keeping me down and making me slow.

I took some pride of making these items and equipment for me since it made me feel like a up and coming vigilante of sorts or even like Batman, whom I was a fan of since he in a similar manner is a regular human among super powered individuals. Granted I was not a rich billionaire noir was I the greatest detective either, but besides that those were some of those similarities we both had. The only thing would be how I wasn't sure of when I will use this gear since I was mostly spending the first week of the break here training at the school and in the auditorium, but from what Joshua had mentioned earlier before that I should take a break for at least one or two days.

Though with that in mind I wasn't sure of what to do for fun and several options were to continue training, meet up with my friend group to head somewhat, or maybe get in touch with asking Selina to hang out. And just as I was thinking of what to choose I would receive a sudden phone call and picked it up to see it was Selina calling me to which now gave me my answer of what to do and so answering the call I lifted my phone to my ear and spoke.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Hey Julian, I was just calling to see how you were doing for your break." Selina spoke.

"I'm doing alright actually, just at..... home... And actually I'm glad you had called because I wanted to ask you something." I replied.

"Sure, what is it?" She asked.

"Well since it's the break and if you're not busy, I was wondering if you would like to hang out and go to the mall with me?" I asked.

"Oh sure I'd love to, I think it'd be great to hang out and maybe get some more help from my science tutor." She joked.

"Yeah, speaking of which how exactly are you doing in science?" I asked again.

"With your help it's been getting easier for me to understand, though there are still some things that I don't quite get just yet." She answered.

"Well then today is your lucky day if I say so." I remarked.

"Whatever you say nerd, so what time should we meet up?" She asked.

"How does... 10:30 sound to you?" I suggested.

"Sounds splendid, I'll see you soon then?" She replied.

"You bet you will, see you there tough nut." I responded.

"Later nerd alert." She said before ending the call.

"Sounds like you have plans." Joshua spoke up from behind me.

"Yeah, you did say I should take a break from training so I decided to hang out with a friend." I answered.

"A friend you say, guessing those cute nicknames are just friendly terms." Joshua then remarked.

"Come on man not you too, I mean it when I say we're just friends." I stated.

"I didn't say that, I'm just saying you shouldn't have to be embarrassed about having a girl you like. Plus from what I heard from Collin and Ashton, she seems like a nice young lady." Joshua said.

"I mean yeah she a very cool and nice person, but that doesn't mean I like her in that way." I responded.

"I didn't say either, I'm only suggesting that if you do you shouldn't have to keep telling yourself that you don't. It's natural and plus you're still a teenager." Joshua then nudged my shoulder.

"Right, a teenager who happens to be training to join a secret group who also is friends with a Shinigami, an Imp, a Djinns, a shapeshifter, and a witch who also has monster trying to attack him because he's human. Yeah that's pretty natural." I said sarcastically.

"Regardless, this was just a bit of advice. Besides with all the training you have been doing you have put on a bit of muscle so that's a score." Joshua added.

"Whatever you say old man, but now I'm gonna go get freshen up and ready for a hangout day with a friend." I stated.

"Or a small date with a girl." He suggested with a smirk under his bandages.

"It is not a date..." I answered.
