Everyone around you seemed nervous and on edge. The heroes, the students, the support teams. There was a thick tension across the entire team. One you understand exists because of the battle ahead, but one you can't relate to. Not only have you survived a war before, but you've walked the line between life and death for a long time before. This is no different.
Be it the room, be it while training with Toji, the time Satoru tried to end your life, even the culling game and getting chased by the american military.
Death loomed over you like a thick blanket, and you had no problem ducking your head under it and resting in the absolute dark. The void that swallowed you. Funny considering you don't like the dark.
Before you split up into your respective team you met up with Kirishima, clutching his shoulder in a vice grip and telling him to keep safe and retreat if necessary. Running away is not shameful, especially not when it's him. It's manly. He nodded along to your rambling of worry, trying to assure you that he'll be careful as much as the circumstances allow. And while you would have rather heard him say he won't participate in the fight, it was enough for you to depart from him. For now.
"Nervous?"
Hawks is part of your team. You were told to stay close to him and act according to his orders. Aka, he's in charge of you right now.
"Not at all. How about yourself?"
He chuckles dryly but his lips are drawn into a thin line. "I don't have time for that." Touché. You like him. You came to that conclusion the longer you spent listening to the plans and backup plans, and the backup plans for the backup plans. He might sound like Satoru and come off in a similar fashion at first, but he's by far not as annoying as your cousin. But maybe that's just given the circumstances. He doesn't really have time to joke around right now.
He's a lot like you, strategic, fast on his feet. He works efficiently and always makes sure the jobs well done. After least that's the impression you get from him and what Kirishima told you about his work as a hero. Not to mention, his hands are stained similarly to yours, though the coating on your hand is much thicker and older than his. A one and done is very different from a career as a professional killer, but taking a life is all the same in both cases.
"Rember not to let him steal your quirk. You have a really strong gift."
You grimace, turning away and clicking your tongue in distaste. If he knew he wouldn't call it a gift. This unveiled limitless is nothing but a burden on your shoulders. You can't even use it properly. But obviously, he doesn't know that.
"Can't make any promises."
He frowns slightly but you don't feel bad for bringing the mood down. You're a little sick of having to pretend you're a quirk user. It's tiring, not to mention insulting. Your technique is so much better than a quirk. And it could have been even better if you hadn't been cursed at birth. But alas, Satoru was born two years before you, and only one human can exist with the six-eyes at once.
"You're the backup, try to stay out of the way until necessary."
That's Endeavor. Also, part or your team. But unlike Hawks he isn't in charge if you.
"Can't make any promises for that too."
But what he said is true. You're backup in the fight against All for One. Until you're needed to handle the big guy, you're benched. Or rather, busy with his creations. Nomu is what they're called. You think. Human experiments that have turned into monsters upon being injected with multiple quirks. You have absolutely no idea what they look like, but you doubt it will be hard to spot them. From what you heard they're quite the sight.
