The first years rose out of the boats, a few of them drenched from having fallen in the water. A girl called Marlene had sat in James', Sirius' and Peter's boat. She was bound to be Sirius and James best friend. Same hyperactive energy, same sass. Her blonde hair whipped in her face as She introduced herself to the three who were left on the other boat.

Lily thought about the interaction during dinner, later that night. She didn't know what to think of her. Marlene. She repeated in her head. But first, it was time for the sorting.

(This next talking parts are mostly taken from the actual philosophers stone book... btw and sorry to Americans who call it sorcerers stone but if you make a comment on it I will block you)

Hagrid lead the group inside to a woman who stood tall in emerald-green robes.

"The firs'-years, Professor McGonagall," he said.

"Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here."

She pulled the door wide open so that everyone could get their first glimpse of the Great Hall. Everyone gasped with amazement, hysterical that most of their next few years will be spent in the castle standing around them. The professor walked the students down the isle towards the front of the room where Dumbledore, Slughorn and all the other Professors sat at a long table.
Welcome to Hogwarts," said professor McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something  like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room.
The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded with the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours.
The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting."

Her eyes lingered for a moment of James' cloak, which was fastened under his left ear, and on Sirius' messed up, floppy hair.

"I shall return when we are ready for you," said Professor McGonagall. "Please wait quietly," she expressed.

It felt like forever until the professor came back for them, so in reality compared to child's mind, it was 5-10 minutes.

"We're ready for you now. Follow me," McGonagall said. The first years watched Mcgonagall leave, stumbling over their feet to catch up with her.

——————————————————————————————————

One of the first things Sirius saw in the Great Hall were his 3 older cousins Andromeda, a 6th year, Bellatrix, who was in 5th and Narcissa, a 4th year. Bellatrix was staring him down and he could almost imagine her and his mother's voice, merged to one. "Toujours pur. Sirius, don't disappoint me."

He shuddered, shaking off the feeling of his mother creeping around. He was far away from her. He was almost safe.

The first child called to sit upon the stool was, in fact, not Sirius'. It was someone from the Abbot family, Vivian. Obviously sorted into Slytherin, like the rest of her family. There were a few names he didn't recognise before his own.

"Sirius Black!" McGonagall's voice boomed as she smiled at the child edging towards her. "Interesting," the Sorting Hat said. It stayed quiet for a while, deciding which house to put Sirius in. 'Just put me in Slytherin, if it's that hard for you,' Sirius thought. "Well, Slytherin wasn't rather one of the houses I was considering, boy but if that's what you really wan-"

"NO!" His mind screamed. "Continue as you were."

"Someone like you, with your mind. Perhaps..." He trailed off. "Gryffindor!"

"WHAT!" A high-pitched, shrilly voice flooded the room. "Sirius is meant to be in Slytherin!"

"Alas!" Dumbledore said. "The hat has put him in Gryffindor, Miss Black. Now, Minerva, shall we get back to the sorting?" A Rhetorical question.

By the time the feast was over and everyone had been put in their houses, James was ready to crash to the ground right in the middle of the Great Hall. He was in gryffindor, like his dad, and like all his friends. Except Severus, who was in Slytherin. He really wasn't trying to be mean earlier, but the dude seemed to hate him. He seemed to hate everyone but Lily. He trudged up the one-million staircases that he found out he now had to climb - and that move!! That was very confusing - and followed his prefect, whom he already forgot the name of, to Gryffindor tower where he got to crash in a couch by the fire. He was very calm until Marlene crashed on top of him... and Sirius jumped on top, crushing the both of them.

"James! We have to go find our rooms. Come on," Marlene complained.

"But I'm tired Marly,"

James felt a 2 hand pulling on one of his legs. That was also when he realised that Sirius was not on top of Marlene and himself anymore.

"Sirius don't you dare-!"

CRASH! Sirius had slipped over in the event of pulling his friends off the couch land on top of Marlene again and James being ultimately smushed underneath the two of them whilst Remus and Lily, who had been watching the entire time, were laughing their asses off. The trio on the floor joined them before finally going to find their dorms.
