It was the first day of classes. I stood outside Transfiguration with McGonagall, looking at all the panicked, first-year faces, asking as many as I could how I can help. Remus and Peter were already inside but I was waiting for James, who had decided to practise his flying skills right before we had to be in the Strictest Teacher Ever's class. Right before he reached me, he tripped on his long robe, knocking over an itty bitty first-year.

"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have been running. Are you ok?" James panicked.
The first year nodded their head and told James that everything was completely fine as he asked never-ending questions and their forgiveness. Eventually the first year pat James on the head and said goodbye with a humoured expression on their face.

"James, Mate. They're fine. They understand it was a mistake. They definitely understand that you're sorry. They're ok. We have class, c'mon now."

Me 'n' James snagged seats next to Pete and Rem on a four-seat table right as the bell rang. Luckily as class went on Minnie didn't try to ruin that with a seating plan.

That first day. Always the slowest. If 4th of September, 1972, was in a race with a snail, the snail would win before the race had even started. As James and his classmates were reminded of everything they went through last year, not being taught anything new, he began to lose his focus. Playing with his loose tie, he zoned out on the outside world. He looked out the window, slightly noticing Remus trying, and failing, to bring his attention back to the session.

Days passed, then weeks and all of a sudden 4 months flew by, making it the 18th of December.
The minimal students that had remained at Hogwarts for the two week break were: 7th years studying, 4 1st yrs ;one being Regulus, 2nd years only consisting of quite a few Gryffindors and a couple Slytherins, Snape and some kid Meadows. And the other grades just remained of three or four people, not anybody they knew.

Everyday of the holidays consisted of the same routine for everybody, sit in the Great Hall for breakfast at a single table, sitting in year levels, layered in clothing. Either study or chat in common rooms. Then eat dinner and repeat the next day. Until today. It was the morning of Christmas day and a few of the staff and students were seen passing gifts around to one another. James, being an avid gift giver, got something for all his teachers and friends. And Meadows, since he apparently knew her from watching the quidditch tryouts and practising together a few times.
That arvo, around 4 o'clock, James, Peter, Sirius and Remus enacted a plan that was weeks in the making. They sent owls to every single person that was still at school.

Dear Fellow Witch/Wizard

We send to you the greatest wishes that you would join us by the field of snow and grass alongside the Black Lake at 5:30pm Christmas day (today) for an event that will brighten your spirits. And possibly make you very cold so wear your warmest clothes.

Sincerely,-

"Wait! Pete! What are we gonna name ourselves?" Remus, who was writing the letter, asked.

"What?"

"We need a collective name for the four of us, unless we're just signing our normal names."

"Ohh, right right right! It needs to be cool, something that shows we mean mischief, fun and a right to hidden identities.

"Go get Sirius and James. I'll brain storm."

Sirius and James were in the dorm with Frank warming up after setting up the grounds.

"James! Sirius! We need you." Peter panted after stopih up the stairs.

"Be down in a sec!! Cya Frank!" The boys said as they rushed out the door.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remus started talking. "Like I said, we need a name to sign the letter off as. We can't put our names down bc it's too clunky and too many letters. We need a name that describes us. And so I present... The Marauders."

The other three stared at Remus, feeling enlightened by the name. It was perfect, it was fun, and mischievous and accounted for everything they needed in a name.

At the look of his friends reactions he wrote the name down at the end of the letter, duplicating it and sending a copy to everyone that was within the grounds of the school.

A/n it's been tio long. I got 750 words and a ton of mental struggles. Surprised if you're still reading it but thank you so much. Also no spell check this time round. Luv y'all, as always cyaaa next time.
