Chapter 1

In the vast and beautiful country of Canada, a young lady, a mere fifteen years of age, found herself seated beside her loving parents within the confines of a car. The car in question was taking them from the bustling Toronto airport to a quaint and lesser-known town in Ontario, Canada, near the bustling airport. This is the town in which the young lady was destined to spend an entire year of her life. At the same time, her parents devoted their time and expertise to the Toronto hospital.

The young lady gazed out of the car's window as the car travelled along the well-paved roads, her eyes catching the picturesque scenery that unfolded in front of her as she gazed out of the window. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the sprawling landscapes of lush greenery and charming houses, encouraging her to get out and enjoy them. Trying to figure out what to expect in the year ahead left her heart filled with both trepidation and excitement at the same time.

The small town of Pickering welcomed the family with its warm small-town atmosphere. The community, though modest in size, boasted a rich history and a tight-knit community. The young lady's parents had meticulously chosen this town as their temporary home, recognising its proximity to their workplace and tranquillity.

In the coming months, the young lady would immerse herself in the local culture, forge new friendships and spend a year at the local high school. She would explore the hidden gems of Pickering, from its charming parks to its quaint cafes, all while her parents fulfilled their duties at Toronto Hospital.

Although apprehensive, the young lady's journey was one of growth and discovery. Each day that passed, she faced the challenges and opportunities that awaited her, without knowing that this year in Pickering was one of the most critical years of her life, which would shape her character and broaden her horizons forever.

This was the life she led, a life of constant relocation and adaptation. For a whole year, she would find herself in a new place while her parents, both esteemed medical professionals, dedicated their time and expertise to hospitals across the globe.

Her father was widely recognised as one of the world's leading experts in cardiology and cardiovascular medicine. Equally impressive, her mother, a distinguished neurologist, held a similar esteemed position within the medical community.

Together, they formed a formidable team committed to supplying cutting-edge surgical interventions to patients in various regions. Every year, they would embark on a new journey, settling in a different hospital and location, ensuring that individuals in those areas had access to the most advanced and groundbreaking surgical procedures available.

Their unwavering devotion to their respective fields allowed them to live a nomadic lifestyle, which allowed them to positively change countless lives worldwide through their relentless efforts.

And, of course, they could not leave their daughter behind, so Cassandra had to go with Ann and Paul Cardno.

Cassandra was born in the charming city of Dunedin, located in the beautiful country of New Zealand. From the age of 6, she embarked on a journey with her parents that would take her to various corners of the globe, experiencing the diverse cultures and landscapes each destination had to offer.

Their nomadic lifestyle led her to live in ten cities spanning four distinct countries.

Initially, they travelled around New Zealand, exploring its picturesque towns and vibrant cities. Subsequently, they then travelled across the Tasman Sea to the vast continent of Australia, where her parents worked, and she immersed herself in its rich history and breathtaking natural wonders. Cassandra and her parents then ventured further afield, crossing the vast Pacific Ocean to the land of opportunity, the United States of America.
