Cassie perspective
I awoke to my cell phone ringing, groggily lifting my head from the pillow. I fumbled for my phone on the nightstand, my eyes still bleary from sleep. I squinted at the bright screen, seeing Shawn's name on the caller ID.
I answered hesitantly, my mind still foggy from Sleep."Shawn, what's going on? It's the middle of the night," I exclaimed, still feeling groggy and disoriented.
"Cassie, I need you to get in your car, no questions asked, and get here now. There has been an intruder, and my dad shot him. The police are on their way, but I need you here now. Please hurry." Shawn's words woke me up entirely. "Oh my god, Shawn! What's happened?" I said.
I could hear the panic in my voice as my body was filled with panic. "I don't have time to explain right now; just please get here as soon as you can," Shawn said urgently. I took a deep breath to push down the panic. "I'm on my way; I will call grandmother and grandfather once I am there," I said before hanging up the phone. I quickly threw on some clothes and grabbed my purse. I ran out the front door, my heart pounding as I realised the gravity of the situation.
I rushed out of the house and into the car, speeding towards Shawn's house. I was filled with dread as my imagination raced with possibilities. I quickly dialled the Palace and asked for the Queen's personal assistant. "This is Princess Cassandra. Please inform Her Majesty that an attempt to kidnap my kids has been made, and ask her to call me back, please?" I asked.
I could hear the surprise in the assistant's voice, but they assured me they would pass on the message. I hung up and continued my frantic drive towards Shawn's house. When I arrived, I stopped the car with a screech outside Shawn's house, and I got out of the car as Shawn came running outside. I looked around nervously before I ran over to hug him. I was still shaking with fear, as was Shawn, and I could feel his heart pounding against mine. I held him for a few moments before letting go.
"Are you okay, Shawn?" I asked, my eyes wide with worry; he nodded. The police were still asking questions, so he quickly told me what had happened. I nodded as he talked, looking around the house in shock. "Let's go inside," Shawn said, taking my hand and leading me inside. The police looked up, "Who is this?" One of the policemen asked.
Standing beside Shawn, I stood taller and, in a firm voice, replied, "I am Princess Cassandra Cardno, Daughter to Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith."
"Why are you here?" the other officer asked.
"Because the kids that person wanted to Kidnapp are Shawn's and mine children, Lord Phillip Peter Arthur Cardno and Lady Elizabeth Aleena Margaret Cardno," I answered. The cops looked at each other; my phone rang just then, and looking at the screen, I answered, "Hello, Grandmother."
"Cassandra, What is going on? My assistant said there was a kidnapping attempt on the twins." Queen Elizabeth said. "Yes, Grandmother. The police are here at the moment; the twins are fine, and so is Shawn's family." I said. Grandmother sighed.
"Oh, Cassandra darling, don't worry," She said as I heard in the background, "Prepare a private plane, inform William and Kate we will be heading for Canada." Prince Phillip's voice came through the phone.
"Phillip is right; I think the family should be together in times like these. We are coming to you and bringing security."
"Lilibet, please tell Cassie that I am contacting Prime Minister Trudeau to have police guard her till we get there," Prince Phillip said. "Did you hear that Cassie?" Grandmother asked me. "Yes, Grandmother," I replied.
