Once again, (F/N) found himself in a strange situation. Classes were over, the night sky once again took over the sky, and he was over at an empty playground in Vale. Dressed warmly, and casually, he just stood on the sidewalk, staring at it. Staring at it reminded him of the times he would spend here, but he wouldn't be climbing the jungle gyms, sliding down the slides, or swinging on the swings. A lot of his time would be spent reading books; comic or nonfiction books. He would be brought here with his aunt and uncle, just so he could catch some rays. And while his aunt would push for him to try and make friends, his uncle was supportive of him reading.
But to be here, much older than how he normally was, he felt a bit weird.
"Thanks again for coming," he heard to his left. He turned his head to face the person, only to find that it was Ruby. She looked at him with a smile, content and confident. (F/N) could only blush as he saw her smile again. He glanced away and scratched the back of his head.
"N-No problem," he replied.
That's right, once again they were trying to spend some time together, this time in a place public to both humans and Faunus. No one was going through here, so they had it all to themselves. It was a second attempt, after the arcade date was basically a fail.
Of course, it all felt so fast to (F/N).
During classes, he sat in the lunchroom waiting for another trip to combat class. He was worried about what the others would say this time around, but those thoughts soon faded when he was greeted abruptly.
"Hey, (F/N)!" He looked up from his food and saw that it was Ruby, standing next to him with a tray of food in her hand.
"Oh, hey Ruby," (F/N) replied. He could still clearly remember when she rejected him again, but he still remained open. "What's up?" Ruby took a seat next to him again, this time with the intent to stay there.
"I...I was wondering if my team, or yours, explained about how I acted the other day?" When (F/N) returned from his trip to Vale, his team simply made sure he was okay, followed with some lighthearted conversation. They hadn't old him of her behavior. Shaking his head, Ruby let out a sigh of relief. "Good. I was scolded pretty hard by Blake." When she saw that he was giving her a confused look, she composed herself to explain. "Look, do you think you could...come see me at the playground in Vale after classes? I want to explain everything to you there." (F/N) had paused on whether or not to humor her, but hearing how she wanted to be the one to explain it changed his mind.
And with that, I'm sure you know how he answered. What followed after her question was her team sitting close to them, and taking this chance to greet new friends. Got to know them, understand them, and offered to introduce them to team JNPR (friends during the initiation and dorm neighbors).
When night came, (F/N) went to the playground, which brings us to now.
Ruby walked into the playground, with (F/N) following. She walked up to the jungle gym and started climbing on it. (F/N) hesitated to follow, but did anyway. He pulled himself up.
"So, what is it you wanted to talk to me about?" (F/N) asked, as Ruby quickly reached the top of the gym and sat. She glanced over to (F/N), before looking at the other end of the playground. (F/N) got situated next to Ruby, though perpendicular to her position.
What followed was her explanation as to why she was acting distant the day before. She went on about how one of her closest friends had hidden that she was a Faunus. And that they didn't know until her friends began arguing. After the anecdote, Ruby stated that she was worried that's what (F/N) was going through.
"When she ran out, I thought that was the last time I would see her," she said. "We searched all of Vale, but nothing." As much as (F/N) understood that, there was still a question gnawing at him.
