SHEILA
Sheila stared at the pregnancy tests in her hand, she had peed on it and almost screamed when she saw the two lines on it, hold on she was actually pregnant, yes she was scared but she was happy too, deep down, she wondered how it would feel for her to actually be a mother, how it would feel having a daughter who looked like her , she smiled , maybe this wasn't how she would have wanted to get pregnant in the first place, but she was happy regardless.

She couldn't wait for Dominic to return so she could give him the news, she squealed, she was really having a baby, she was delighted.

Dominic returned around 7pm that evening, Sheila had prepared some Italian spaghetti sauce with meatballs , it was Dominic's favorite, as he smelt the aroma, he walked towards the kitchen and smiled at her. Sheila jumped on him, "Baby, you are home".

He made a spin as he carried her and she laughed.

"I have missed you señorita", he said placing a peck on her lips.

"Me too", Sheila got off him and began to dish their foods on the table.

"What's the special occasion ?".

"Soon mister you would find out", she led him to a seat opposite hers and put his food closer to him, she sat on her seat .

They digged into their food in comfortable silence, Sheila decided it was time to make the announcement .

"I am pregnant", Dominic stopped eating looking at her like she was going nuts.

"Have you confirmed?".

"Yes, did a pregnancy test , it was positive".

"Then you would have to take it out", Dominic said his voice void of emotion.

Sheila looked at him in shock, was he serious?, "Where's this relationship heading to if I may ask?".

"It's heading somewhere and a baby is definitely not a thing we need at this moment of our lives".

"Then when do we need one?".

"When I am ready".

"So I see I have no say in this matter then".

"Sheila , I am not ready to father a child".

"The question is would you ever be?".

"And what's that supposed to mean", Dominic said squeezing his fists.

"It means you don't plan on taking this relationship further , do you?".

"I am tired Sheila....plan to take that thing out..I would give you time to think about it", Dominic said as he left his food half finished . Sheila looked at her plate and suddenly she didn't feel like eating again, she placed her hands on her stomach and wondered for a moment what it would feel like to have her baby growing inside of her. Dominic must be joking , this time she was willing to go all out for her baby and she didn't care if she lost him in the process.
ERIC
Eric walked to the car park that evening, he had an on call shift which had lasted for over twelve hours, he had handed over to the doctors on night shift and had briefed them about few patients he had attended to during his shift, he was glad to be leaving, though he was grateful for the grace to use his knowledge to serve humanity, especially the older patients , he was glad he was a geriatrician, treating old people had made he realize the brevity of life and how even a hundred years was still a short time to live, although there were some patients he had gotten attached to whose deaths had left him in shock, he was glad that some of them have received Christ into their lives before leaving earth.

As he got closer to his car, he saw Nadia, one of the junior doctors that had been assigned to go on ward rounds with him, she was probably waiting for some taxi, but he could at least give her a ride instead of leaving her in the dark.

"Nadia...what's happening?".

"Most of my rides keep on cancelling and I don't know why".

"Care to join me?", Eric opening the side door.

"At this point...I can't refuse", Nadia said hopping in the car seat at the front.

The drive was slow with comfortable silence.

"I forgot to ask...where do you live?".

"Oxford street, the third building by the right".

"Ok then", Nadia looked uneasy as though she wasn't comfortable with him and he understood it was because their relationship had mostly just been between junior doctor and senior doctor and now that there was no medical related discussion between them, their conversation was stale, he decided he was just going to break the silence and try to know her better as a person.

"So where are you from?".

"Well I was born in India, my mum is an Indian and my dad is British , they met during one of his visits to India and fell in love but never married each other".

"Wow, how did that affect you?".

"It was difficult actually growing up with an absent father, my mum never married , my dad married someone else....it was when I wanted to go to college that my father suggested I came to England to study medicine, that's when my relationship with him got better".

"And your mum, how is she?".

"I am sure she misses me but I promised her I would find time to come to India as soon as I get a leave".

"Your hair is very beautiful", Eric said staring at her long black hair, she had made it into a ponytail.

"Thank you...I suppose I got it from my mum.....how about you?".

"My parents are separated, I am the only child , both of them were born in England".

"That must have been though on you growing up", Eric nodded as he made a sharp cut to the street Nadia's house was located in.

"That should be your apartment right?", he said pointing at the cream colored building on the right, Nadia nodded.

"Thanks Mr. Walkers", she said unbuckling her seat belt.

"Just Eric is fine ".

"Ok thanks Eric", she said as she got out of the car , a smile on her face, Eric couldn't help but smile too, her smile was contagious and very rare.
