There are 3 second genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Alphas are the most dominate of all, omegas are the most submissive if all. Betas are normal. Alphas got into rut every 6 months, usually want to be with an omega. Omegas go into heat every 2 months, they always want to be touched during that period. Omegas can be marked by an alpha to become their mate for life, until one of them dies. When and omega is completely content and with someone they trust, they purr.

They met when Tanjiros entire family was slaughtered. Tanjiro had just watched his sister Nezuko bleed out to death. Giyu had found him after tracking a demon there, knowing that if he'd faster, he would've been able to save them. He, in a bucket of guilt, helped Tanjiro bury his family and took him to Urokodaki. He stayed with Tanjiro for a little while, feeling a strange attraction to him, not just because he was an omega, but something more obsessive. When he left, he decided he should keep tabs on him, following him on a mission or two in the future.

Tanjiro himself had changed since the accident, he became slightly colder. At first, he had felt emotionless, numb to the touch. After spending some time with Giyu, and training with Urokodaki, he found his lost emotions, but they weren't as they used to be. He was more, judgy, and he had a short temper that he showed to no one. He had also developed weird feelings towards Giyu, but he ignored it until Mount Natagumo.

Seeing Giyu with Shinobu, well this, this, pissed him off to his core. He disliked her.

Giyu was enraged at how close Tanjiro was with Zenitsu and Inosuke. He disliked them.

And they were both going to do a little more than something about it.
