My face and mood is brought down by that one sentence, if he can book a ticket for me, he can book a ticket for Charles too. My plan to get away from all of them has failed.
"Yes, of course Charles, I'm sure you miss your teammate, and I'm sure he misses you too." Fred says reassuring him as Charles nods at him.
Fred concludes the meeting and I leave the garage, more angry than I was going into the meeting. I storm off to the car park without saying a word to anyone, as I don't want to take out my anger out on anyone. When I get into the car park I kick the gravel floor in anger before getting into my car. I hit the dashboard and put my head on it in defeat. I wrap my head with my hands and let tears roll out my eyes. Why would he treat me like that, teammates are supposed to be friends, not hating each other. Why would he do this? Was it intentional, of course it was. I answer my own questions spiralling in my head. I pick myself up and start driving to the apartment to pick up Rosa and all our stuff before heading to the airport.
"Hey, you ready to go?" I ask once I get to the apartment, she nods at me.
"Yeah, finally ready to go home, I'm sad I won't be coming with you, but I'm sure you'll be fine, and tell Daniel I'll see him soon." Rosa says while we start packing up the car.
"I will, don't worry, I'm sure he'll miss you, you two seem really close." I hint at her.
"He just understands me, you know? Like I'm quite a quiet person and he's quite loud, but he somewhat understands me." She explains.
"An unlikely duo." I add, making her laugh.
"And Maeve?" She says while we pack the last bag into the car.
"You should really visit your parents. I know you don't want to, but you should really visit them, they miss you." Rosa says sincerely, trying not to make matters worse. And we both sit in the car and I start driving to the airport.
"Rosa, please don't, not now. I have enough I need to deal with. I phone them everyday." I say, trying now to cause an argument, but just being honest.
"Maeve, it might do you some good, get you away from your problems here. Maybe after the next race you can visit them?" Rosa offers, and she has a point, if I go to see them it would take me away from all my problems here, but when I come back they'll still be here.
"You have a good point Rosa, but I don't know if I'm ready to face their 'you chose a stupid career' attitude." I explain to her, while she puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Maeve, they don't think your career is stupid, they just care for you, they don't want you to get hurt, and f1 isn't really the safest career choice, but they will support you and they are trying to support you, they just really worry about you Maeve." Rosa hints, trying to tell me they care, when really they just want me to have an 'actual' career.
"I wish that were the case Rosa. However I think they don't think my career is an actual career, unlike a lawyer or a doctor." She looks at me knowingly.
"Maeve, I know that's partly the case but it's mostly because they care for you, try to look at the positive reason for them acting like this." Rosa points out as I spot a familiar mercedes heading to the airport.
"That's George!" I point out to Rosa.
"Don't you dare race him, I know we are on a motorway, but don't, please for the sake of my weak stomach." Rosa worriedly remarks.
"Come on, he's practically asking for a race, he's let this car overtake him!!" I point out, trying to get Rosa to see my point.
"Do you not race each other enough on the tracks?" She asks sarcastically.
