Charles flips the pancake and it lands in his pan. He then puts it onto a plate and starts making another pancake. He lets it cook for a minute and then flips it, landing in the pan again.
"Just two pancakes?" He asks.
"Three, for luck." I respond, watching him cook the pancakes.
He lets the second pancake to cook for a minute before putting it on a plate, and then puts it on the plate and cooks a third pancake. He lets it cook for a minute again, and then flips it, and not surprisingly, it lands in the pan, again. He lets it cook and puts it on the plate.
"Lemon and sugar, I'm guessing?" He says.
"Yep." I respond as he gets the sugar and a lemon and puts it on the pancake.
"Bon appetite" He says giving me the plate of pancakes.
"Wait, your not having pancakes of peace?" I ask him, he looks at the amount of mix left and then looks at the pan.
"Do they have to be flipped and land in the pan?" He asks.
"Yes, otherwise they aren't peace pancakes are they?" I respond as if he just asked me a stupid question. I'll admit, I did miss the pancakes that he cooks.
He cooks himself three pancakes and he successfully flipped them all in the pan and put some lemon and sugar on them.
"So whilst-" He starts.
"We are not at the level of friendship where we talk whilst eating peace pancakes, so shush." I interrupt him.
"Friendship? Officially off your hate list now." He smiles, as I realise that word slipped out my mouth, it feels like my head and my heart are battling. My head says we should leave, while my heart says we should try and be friends with him again.
"Whats wrong, you look a bit zoned out?" He asks, snapping me out of my trance.
"Oh, uh, nothing, don't worry about it. I just thought I should tell you something, about when you phoned me about what Lando said to you." I say, realising he's going to know the reason I was upset.
"Oh, what was it? I mean he was threatening to beat someone up with your frying pan-" He starts.
"It was you." I interrupt him, the sentence falls out my mouth.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't realise-" His face falls instantly as I say that.
"No, no, the peace pancakes make up for it. Don't make me feel even worse by making me feel guilty that your apologising over my petty emotions." I ramble, trying to get him to cheer up a bit.
"I doubt they were petty, and would you mind stealing your frying pan back off Lando if that's the case." He half jokes.
"Yeah, I'm kinda gonna need my frying pan back, and he doesn't know it was you." There is an odd look to Charles as if he already knew what I was upset about.
"Anyway, I should be heading back to my apartment, I'll call a cab, thank you for the peace pancakes Charles, I'll see you on the track." I say, whilst walking towards the door.
"Wait, Maeve?" He calls my name before I leave.
"Yes?" I respond to him and turn around to face him.
"Thank you, for hearing me out." He says, with a genuine look in his eyes.
"Thank you too, for the peace pancakes." I reply, and I walk out the door and close it.
A sudden wave of relief washes over me as I close the door and I sigh, as if a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. This time, my heart won the battle, I did want to try and be friends with Charles again. My phone pings when I get down to the lobby and I notice there's a message from an unknown number and Charles.
