CHAPTER SIXTEEN

◣◥◤◢◣ ◥◤◆◥◤◢◣◥◤◢

Very odd don't you think?

Ryoko sighed, watching as the first light of dawn crept over the horizon. She'd risen before the sun, unable to shake the weight of her thoughts after Meliodas had explained his mission. How could her people play a role in this world, when they no longer even existed?

'I have to understand this connection somehow...' She thought, just as her heightened senses picked up the quiet sound of footsteps behind her.

The balcony door opened, and Ban stepped out, looking like he'd only woken moments ago. His hair was tousled, his voice a bit rougher and deeper than usual as he greeted her. "What're ya doin' up so early?"

Ryoko's eyes drifted over him—how he absently scratched his head, his shirt lifting just enough to reveal a glimpse of his abs and a sharp v-line. She had to admit, he looked... handsome.

"I couldn't really rest." She replied, shifting her gaze to the horizon again. "But I'm surprised to see you up at this hour."

"Couldn't sleep either."

In truth, Ban...missed her. With everything that had happened, she'd felt distant, and he couldn't stand it. He wasn't sure why, but he woke up with an urge to see her.

Ryoko moved aside slightly, patting the ledge beside her. "Come sit with me."

Ban didn't hesitate. He settled beside her, and for a few moments, they sat together in silence, watching as the sun rose higher into the sky. Ryoko's hair seemed to catch the light, glowing like flames, and her warm brown skin radiated a rich glow that made Ban's breath catch. She was... breathtaking, even if he wasn't ready to admit it.

"Would you like to stay and watch the sunrise with me?" She asked quietly.

He tore his gaze away from her to look out at the sun, trying to steady the storm of thoughts in his mind. "...Yeah." The word slipped out before he could stop himself, and he frowned, feeling conflicted.

'I've never looked at any other woman like this..Only Elaine...

What's happenin' to me?'

A couple of hours had passed since they left the tavern, and the sun was now fully up, casting a golden glow over the dense forest they traveled through. The Sins were spread out, riding in their preferred positions on Hawk Mama, while Ryoko walked slightly ahead, her eyes scanning the surroundings as if lost in thought.
