Chapter 3

"So, where did you live before Texas?" Kal asked me as we turned down a street called "Abney Circle."

"Charleston, West Virginia. Why?"

"I was wondering where you got your accent?"

"What accent? I don't have an accent."

"If you say so."

"Hey, if you want me to have an accent I can have an accent," I said indigently.

"I'd like to see that," he said with a smirk.

"I'm sure you would!" I say with the best country accent I could muster.

"Hahahahaha! Okay I'll give you that one." Kal says with a smile. "Here we are, the grocery store."

We were now driving into a medium sized parking lot that surrounded a small Krogers. We pulled into a parking spot and I started to get out when he walked around and opened the door for me.

"Thanks!" I said with a smile. Wait why was I smiling so much? That's so weird. There's just something about him that makes me want to be... I don't know... Happy? Okay that's definitely weird.

"So what do you need to get?" Kal asked as we walked towards the store.

"Stuff for dinner mostly. We already have most of our boxes at the new house."

"Except for the one with paper towels."

"Yeah, that one is with my dad and Dylan."

"Who's Dylan?"

"He's my little brother. He's annoying but I love him."

"You have a little brother? You're so lucky! I only have a twin sister. And she is no sense of personal space."

"You have a twin sister? That's so cool!"

"Her name is Kaylee, and I'm serious when I say she has no sense of personal space. Yesterday I found her looking for her makeup in my underwear drawer. I mean really, how the heck would it get there?"

"I'm sure she's not that bad. She's probably just doing the same thing my brother does and doing it to annoy you."

"Heh, I wish! What are you planning on making for dinner?"

"Huh?"

"You need to buy stuff for dinner right?"

"Oh, yeah." I said quietly. Had I really been so caught up in our conversation that I had forgotten the reason I was at the grocery store? Wow that's sad. What is going on with me?

"So, what are you guys having?" Kal asked again.

"Spaghetti and meatballs with some type of bread if I can find the stuff to make it."

"I'll help you. The noodles are over at isle seven and the sauce should be over at isle nine. And the bread should be at the back."

"Wow, you really know your Krogers."

"Kaylee loves to cook and she always makes me come here and buy the ingredients for her," Kal says with a sigh.

"Oh, that would explain it. Hey, to thank you for today would you and your family like to come over for dinner?"

"Sure! I know that Kaylee would love to meet you."
