Chapter 5
"Lori get up! Get up! Get up! Up! Up! Up!" My little brother shouted as he belly flopped on my bed.
"Okay! I'm up! What time is it anyway?" I sat up and started to poke Dylan on his belly.
"Stop that!" He said with a laugh. "It's seven."
"Seven in the morning?"
"Yep!"
I flopped back down onto my bed and snuggled back into the covers. "It's too early Dylan go back to sleep!"
"Mommy and Daddy are both at Daddy's office and I'm hungry!" Dylan then started to give me his best seven-year-old puppy dog eyes.
"Come on Dylan! You know that's not fair!" But, it was too late. He had already won. With a sigh I threw off the covers, "What do you want for breakfast?"
"Waffles! I want waffles with lots of syrup and butter and and bacon and milk!"
I sighed again. Dylan could eat anything and he could eat tons of it. He had the biggest apatite of any seven-year-old I knew. "Okay, go downstairs and Turn on the TV, I'll be right down."
Dylan ran out of my room and started to stomp down the stairs. I got out of bed when I noticed the Rhododendron that Kal had given me yesterday. It was a beautiful shade of pink with bright green leaves surrounding it. Kal was so nice to give it to me. Snapping out of my train of thought, I walked down the hall to the bathroom I shared with Dylan. I pulled my hair up into a messy pony tail and splashed my face with cold water in a futile attempt to wake up. I walked downstairs and started to pour the waffle mix into the griddle when the door bell rang.
"I'll get it!" Dylan jumped up from his place on the couch and ran towards the front door.
"Dylan who is it?" I shouted as I took the first waffle out of the griddle and began to make another one.
"It's a strange lady and a boy!" He shouted back.
"Hey! Who are you calling strange? That's not nice!" I heard another voice from the doorway say.
"Kaylee, is that you?"
"Hi Lori! Ohh! Do I smell waffles?" Kaylee walked into the kitchen, holding the hand of a little boy that looked to be about Dylan's age. He had the same dark brown hair as the twins, but he had midnight blue eyes. Kaylee sat down at the island in the middle of our kitchen and the little boy sat down next to her. "Lori, this is my little brother Carter. Say hi Carter."
"Hi," he said in what had to be the cutest voice I have ever heard. Kaylee was so lucky! Why can't Dylan be this cute?
"Do you guys want some waffles?" I asked as I took another waffle out of the griddle. I walked over and took the first waffle over to Dylan, who was now watching Power Rangers from his seat on the couch.
I was hoping you would ask!" Kaylee smiled and took the other waffle from the counter and started to eat. Carter got down and walked over to sit beside Dylan and watch tv with him. Dylan smiled and I could tell that they would be good friends. "Hey, do you want to come over today and hang out? Dylan could come over and play with Carter! Plus, I know that Kal would looove to see you!" Kaylee smiled and took another bite of waffle.
"Sure it sounds like fun!" I sat down besides her with a waffle of my own, Carter hadn't wanted one.
"Great! We can start planning out our junior year project!"
"Our what?"
"Junior year project. Every year juniors at our high school are assigned this huge group project. It's basically where you have to design and present a project for the community. It has to be interactive and fifty percent of your grade is based on it. It's always really fun! Last year one group had a dance at the school for the whole community. It was great! The senior citizens got really into it. Anyway, Kal, Darcy, Dax, and I were going to do it together. I was wondering if you wanted to do it with us?"
"Umm... Why not? It sounds like a good group."
"It's the best group! We have Dax! You haven't met him yet but you will soon. He is so hot! You have no idea Lori! He is the god of hotness! He is so sweet too! One time I saw him climbing a tree to save a kitten! He is in drama too! And he always gets the lead!"
"I take it you like him then?"
"Just a little bit." Kaylee smiled and stood up to put her dishes in the sink. "Let's go meet Dax!"
